    Received estimate from Far north mechanical for AC and furnace installation on August 08 2021 for the amount of 10431.59 . Furnace and AC components ordered at the time as agreed upon via email conversation. Furnace was installed paid first invoice of 6975.35 which had a few extra items on it. AC on back order can’t be installed until 2022 spring already snowing. Paid November 2021. AC installed June 2022 received invoice for 5235.17 . This was 1315 over and above estimate. I stated to owner via email he over charged me and he responded with insults and excuses to justify his increases. I paid the invoice in full except the overcharges I did not agree to. 3854.32 Sent the following. *** **** ** **** ***** * **** ** **** **** *** ** **** ******* *** ***** * ** *** ***** **** *** ********* *********** ** *** ** ********* ** *** **** ** ******** **** ******** **** *** **** ******** ** ** ********* *** ****** ******* *** **** ** ** ********* ****** **** **** **** ******** **** ** *** * ***** ***** ********* **** ************ * ********** ***** * ** ************ * ********** ***** * ** ********** *** ******** ** ***** ******** **** ** ********** * *** ** ** **** ********* **** ******* ********** * *** ** ** ************* *** ********* *** ********** * ** **** ** ** ********** **** ******* ***** *** ******** ********* ****** *** ** **** *** *** **** ** ******* **** *** ********** ******* ****
Owner is now *********** to enter our property and take equipment back if we do not pay 834.75 dollars. As he deducted the overcharge of labor was an oversight.

    Thank you **** *** *** *********

Far North Mechanical acknowledges the increase in price from the initial estimate was unfortunate but necessary due to inflationary costs. We apologize for this inconvenience, however we are still owed $834.75 from the customer.

I am rejecting this response because:We had an agreement in writing for a set cost. I was never updated or informed of any increase by Far North Mechanical. Had Far North Mechanical discussed these increases prior to starting the work instead of treating it like a blank cheque operation we likely could have worked something out. Our original invoice was actually an additional 4 hours of labor also but after I brought this to the owners attention of the original estimate he realized I cornered him in his overcharges and deducted that amount. He then proceeded to call us cowards for reporting him to the BBB and started making ridiculous excuses to justify his wrongful increases. Not very professional at all. I will not be paying these overcharges.

    Sincerely,

    Business Response

    Date: 30/10/2022

The initial invoice was dated to only be valid for thirty days. The price of the AC unit, quoted and not available, went up over the COVID period. We have already compromised by removing the labour charges and only charging for material in the $834.75 invoice. We would like to settle this complaint and therefore will reduce our requested invoice by 50%, as the material charges need to be covered.

We are very sorry for this unfortunate experience; supplies were unpredictable during Covid.

I am rejecting this response because:Everything that was on the original quotation was payed for with the exception of the AC unit which was on back order. So the only thing that could possibly be an increase due to inflation or possibly COVID excuses would be the additional 400 added on the AC unit and even this is questionable. The only inflation going on here is the billing far north mechanical is providing. I have receipts for everything and how would inflation come into play with duration of time or installation costs other than a possible hourly rate increase?

    Sincerely,
