- Additional Info:On July 11, 2016: Consumer Protection BC issued an administrative penalty against Squamish Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, a funeral services provider based in Squamish, BC for violating BC's consumer protection laws.
A recent Consumer Protection BC inspection determined that Squamish Funeral Chapel & Crematorium contravened sections of BC's Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (BPCP Act). As a result, Consumer Protection BC issued an administrative penalty of $200.00 for:
a)Failing to include information on its preneed funeral services contract as required by section 19 of the BPCP Act, contrary to section 36 (1)(a) of the BPCP Act, $100.00;
b)Failing to include a space for the written acknowledgement by the consumer that the consumer had received the information required by section 35 to be disclosed, contrary to section 36 (1)(d) of the BPCP Act, $100.00.
