*** ******* * ********* In mid-October 2022 my furnace stopped working, and the furnace repairman from ******* Mechanical came out on October 14 2022 and identified the part causing the problem to me as a “loose gas valve”. Because my husband had died unexpectedly just a few weeks before, and I was planning on selling our too large home within the year, I made what seemed to be the prudent financial decision to just order the replacement part for about $1500.00 including labour, rather than pay for a whole new furnace (quoted from $7675.00 to $8962.00). It took over 2 months for the replacement part to arrive (not the company’s fault, it had to be back-ordered), Finally on January 4 2023 the replacement gas valve was installed, but the furnace still did not work. Now I was told the problem was not the gas valve but another part - the igniter. I was fed up with being cold so I ordered a new furnace. *********, in the company office, told me that she might be able to refund the cost of the useless gas valve if it was returned to her and she could send it back to the supplier. I did so, after the new furnace was installed on January 13 2023, but then she sent me an invoice for $745.00 advising me that that “this is my cost, can’t return”. I believe the furnace problem was incorrectly diagnosed by the repairman on October 14 2022, although ********* won't admit this. My understanding from what he told me was that a new gas valve would fix the immediate problem. My furnace is older, and I do admit that more parts would be wearing out in time, but I felt a replacement part would keep things going, at a much lower cost to me, until I could sell the house. The company was kind enough to not charge me for the labour to install the gas valve on January 4 2023, but I believe I also should not be liable for the actual $745.00 cost of the gas valve, whether or not the supplier will accept a return from Bryan's. Also, I have just paid the company $8058.75 for a new furnace.
