Last month they installed our chimney but crooked leaning to one side drip when rain comes came to work twice due to rain asking $2700.00 we paid $1600.00. Was more than their estimated cost leaving a balance of $1200 and some change they said will come to straighten but we have to pay again .

******* had started contacting us in early 2022 asking that we come and do a woodstove installation and **** inspection certificate on the unit.  They had no one in the area and they couldn't get insurance without it. This is a two hour drive each way for our company.

This is not in our area of operation. He called several times asking to make an exception, they would pay for the travel as we discussed it would be a full days wages plus any material required.  There was no formal estimate given on this job, as we can not on a job that is not viewed first,   they were advised it would be done as  "time and material"  which means they would get a bill at the end of the job which would be due in full less the deposit.  We took a $1000.00 deposit on the job of the anticipate one days labor.  Due to the sever weather the job could not be finished in one day and a second day had to be scheduled. We, returned, which caused us great disruption in our calendar but we wanted to finish the job, we completed the installation the **** certification was provided on site ( again because they said they could not print it)  and met the code.

It had rained on several occasions with no mention of a leak.  We also advised the client that we are not "finish carpenters"  and that they would require one , if they did not do themselves , to finish any trim work around the chimney at the roof line, the fireplace they, the customer, had purchased and asked to be installed should have been installed prior to the ceiling being finish.   Why were issues  not mentioned until months later when we try and collect on our invoice?  The chimney was not crocked when they left the job. Due to the different pitches and height in the ceiling as well as lighting, the chimney may appear off at certain angles but it was not when we left nor was there any mention of it. ******* was on sight the whole time.

The balance of the invoice has been sent to collections.  We have again learned our lesson in trying to help someone who says they are in need and we go out of our way to accommodate, never again.

We have done and interview separately with both of the Techs that were on site performing the work.  Both confirmed that levels were used to make sure the chimney was in line and level.  Adhesive roof seal was used to make sure the customer supplied flashing was installed correctly.  The customer acknowledged, the trim was his responsibility.  The date of June 23rd, it rained and there was no leak at that time.

I am rejecting this response because: you took off the trim and did’nt replace it and you did not advice to get an electrician to put the trim before you come the second time I would pay $600 and the rest to pay for someone to fix it and yes leak came a bit later for there no much rain .Should you come to fix it yourself I wouldn’t be paying anymore .

    Sincerely,
