I am writing to formally file a complaint against a renovation contractor, ******, from [Company Name, if available], for unethical and unprofessional conduct that has significantly disrupted my peace of mind and trust as a *********** early October 2024, I decided to renovate my laundry area and the master bathroom in my home. Based on a friends recommendation, I reached out to ******, who came to my home twice for an assessment and provided a quote for the work. After deciding to proceed, he requested a prepayment of ***** CAD for materials. I suggested signing a contract, but he refused. Trusting my friends recommendation, I went ahead and paid the deposit despite his refusal to formalize the agreement.Later, as I was waiting for ****** to schedule the project start date, I reconsidered the bathroom renovation due to concerns about living in a construction zone with young children and a pet in the house. I informed ****** that I wanted to proceed only with the laundry room renovation, and he agreed to this change. On October 30, 2024, ****** arrived at my home with another worker to start the project. However, he suddenly altered the agreed-upon plan. Initially, we had agreed that the floor would be leveled, and a washing machine would be installed. When ****** claimed that the original 200 CAD we discussed wasnt enough to cover the floor leveling costs, I expressed a willingness to pay more, especially since I had already given him a ***** CAD deposit. At this point, ****** abruptly announced he would no longer be doing the job, instructed me to take legal action if I wanted my money back, and then left my home without refunding the deposit or completing any work.Since then, ****** has blocked me on ****** and refuses to answer my calls. I even asked my friend to try and contact him to discuss a possible resolution, but ****** also refused this attempt at negotiation.

We sent her breakdown list of renovation quotation, she accepted it, which is deemed as a contract between us.
I requested a non- refundable deposit of $1000, as a cost for us to book with demolish crew, plumber, tiler and garbage bin as well. She scheduled the starting date as Oct.30.
On Oct.29th,she advised that she didnt want to do engineering floors anymore, I accepted it due to referral by friends. So I still scheduled all crews for Oct.30. When my crews almost  at the house, she texted me saying she doesnt want to renovate master bathroom. All my crews have to be rescheduled to other job site, we encountered big loss already, but due to friends referral, I was willing to do her bathroom minor changes on main floor. The day when we were ready to start do as we planned, she said she would like the floor  be tiled which is not on my breakdown list. I told her need extra cost but she said $1000 already paid. This is not acceptable to us. When we walked to the gate, her husband said we are bandit and he is going to bring us to the court.

I am rejecting this response because:I did not cancel my renovation plan. Due to concerns about dust affecting my family, including children and pets who live in the home, I decided to adjust the plan but not cancel it. The contractor agreed to these adjustments. My main request was to complete the renovation of the laundry room, but when the contractor arrived, he left without discussing the work with me. The issue arose because I wanted the washing machine placed on a flat surface, which he refused to do. This situation was not a result of me wanting to cancel the projectit was his refusal to complete the work.
Since he refused to start the renovation, he must refund the deposit. This construction company has repeatedly taken deposits from clients without providing any services and refused to refund them, earning widespread criticism. Their attitude is arrogant and deceitful. Regarding his claim that my husband threatened to sue him, this is entirely fabricated. It was he who refused to do the work, walked away, and said, Go ahead, sue me, I wont refund the deposit, and immediately blocked me on ****** and refused to answer my calls. I cannot accept such unscrupulous behavior. He must return my money and apologize to me and my family.
      Sincerely,

Original project values over ******. When we almost arrived on site they changed the mind and cancelled nearly whole project. This is not acceptable to my business. Non refundable deposit 1000 is a compensate for my loss of scheduling crews, workers wages wasted on trip.
Dont waste your time complaining to anyone, go straight to court. I trust judge to give you a lawful and satisfying result.

I am rejecting this response because:My renovation project was originally small: just renovating a bathroom and a laundry room. He hadnt even given me a proposal yet, so how could he have arranged a team? Without a plan submitted, it makes no sense that he would have organized any team in advance. Moreover, he agreed to my requested changes. Although he wasnt happy about it, he did agree, and only after that did he arrange for a worker to come over and start work. If he hadnt agreed, I would have continued with the original plan, but the fact is, he did agree.

Then, when he came to my house with a worker to discuss the design, he suddenly stormed out with a terrible attitude, telling me to take him to court. This is completely unacceptable. If he had disagreed with my plan, he should have discussed it with me. Instead, he refused any discussion, blocked me on WeChat, ignored my calls, and wouldnt even accept mediation from two friends who reached out on my behalf. Why is he acting this way? Its no different from taking the money and running. Hes utterly untrustworthy!

Does he know that, since its only $1,000 , I cant take it to court? Here, small claims court requires a minimum of $3,000 . Ive even heard that hes done this to other familiesabsolutely outrageous behavior!

      Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:

Before the project began, I informed you about the necessary changes to the project scope, and you agreed to those changes. If you had any objections, you should have raised them for discussion. However, you chose to proceed, which clearly indicates your agreement.

We did not sign a formal contract because you refused to do so. Now, it is you who is failing to fulfill your responsibilities. By exploiting the trust I placed in you through a friends recommendation, your actions amount to fraudulent behavior. How is this different from being a scammer? Such conduct is unacceptable, and I firmly oppose it.

      Sincerely,
