We hired ***** of Watkin Carpentry in March of 2023. We gave ***** Watkin of Watkin Carpentry $10,000 to do a full kitchen Reno and full flooring installation. Our flooring was installed incorrectly and is now coming up in many areas. Our flooring was also cut terribly in many different locations leaving unsightly cracks by the walls. We were left with damages in most of our new materials. S**** holes in new doors, s**** holes in new cabinets, trim and baseboards ripped off and not replaced. ***** damaged a brand new ceiling fan with a piece of trim and then instead of replacing the fan out of his own pocket, he told our local hardware store that it fell out in its own. He took over 3 months to do the job and still left us with work left to do. When approached with the photos of damages he told us it was "minor damage and we shouldn't be complaining". We have taken out a second mortgage to do this renovation and now have to find more money to pay someone else to complete the project. We spent over $30,000 on materials only for most of it to be damaged. We would like some type of refund on the damages left by ***** Watkin of Watkin CarpentryBusiness Response

There is multiple statements in that comment which are false. I was at this project for 2 months not 3, minus the week that they left for ******. I injured myself and was told by my doctor that I cant work for 2 months but decided to work through my injury to get the job done for this client. The client was supposed to supply all materials and they didnt have money to buy the rest of the trim so I was unable to install material I didnt have. I was told by both **** and ****** many times throughout the project that all the work looked amazing and how happy they were. The customer chose the cheapest flooring which I installed the in the living room almost at the start of the project, and the whole time I was working there were no issues at all. It wasnt until the project was completed after they moved furniture in that there were scratches and a couple of pieces had separated. The last day I was there the customer made a list deficiencies which I completed. I then did a walk through with **** and she was completely satisfied. I advised her that if there was any issues to call and I would come and fix it. I have never received a call or text asking me to come and fix anything. Instead ****** has gone in our local hardware store and said some false and ********** statements about myself and my business. They are saying they spent 30000$ on materials which is false. I let them purchase all their materials on my account and I have receipts/proof for everything. I did a lot of extra work that wasnt in my estimate and didnt charge them. They received easily 20000$ worth of labour for 10000$. I lost money on this project because I didnt want to go over my original estimate. The extra work includes 26 sq ft of tile backsplash, replaced 3 interior doors, custom made countertops, as well as tongue and groove pine installed on a full wall in the kitchen. The cuts they mentioned in the flooring are against the wall and would be covered by baseboards if they were supplied, but they werent. As for the ceiling fan, I discussed the issue with the sales associate and he decided that it was a warranty issue. I spoke with ****** on the phone after hearing what he was saying about my business and told him that I could come and fix the minor issues they were having in an afternoon and he has yet to ask me to do so. On my final walk through I was told they were very satisfied. ****** or **** could have called me about these issues but instead chose to make false statements about my business, and when I called them about it he was extremely rude on the phone. I have never had any issue with any customer before, in fact I have lots of customers that would provide nothing but positive reviews about my work and my professional demeanour. I can, and will provide any receipts, estimates, and bank statements related to this project.

I am rejecting this response because:Its untrue. ***** Watkin had many conversations with ** leading up to this moment that told him we were unhappy. We couldn't let him go because we'd already given him $10,000 in advance. The job simply was not finished. If he could have charged more, he should have. That's not our problem. Our problem is almost all of our material was ruined by ***** Watkin. Who screws holes in to other things on top of brand new doors? I have photos that show the damages and unfinished work.
Sincerely,

When I finished this job the customer was happy and I told them if there was a problem to contact me which I told them many times. Not only did we do a walk through, but I also spent a day finishing a list of deficiencies that they found. At the end of that day, the job completed and was told by the customer that they were satisfied. As for the damages, I had to cut a finished door down to fit their irregular door framing, and a pin nail poked out the side of the door. I filled it with caulking and was told by the customer that the door was going to be painted. I did not do any painting nor was I responsible for any painting. The s**** holes in the back of the cabinet are due to receiving the wrong cabinet for the area, and cabinet manufacturers always send stickers to cover s**** holes because this is a common issue. As said above, I told the customer many times to call me if there was an issue and instead they chose to ******* ** ********. I never received a phone call about these issues, instead I contacted them and got hung up on.
I do not appreciate the attempt of ******** *** ********** ** ********. I take pride in my work and always tell my customers if they have any issues to just call me.

I am rejecting this response because:Again not truthful statements. There was no walk through done. I asked him if he was happy with the work and he stated he was. I also stated to him that I did have the money for trim and that if he wanted to finish that he could. Not once did he take pictures of his job that he's so proud of. We repeatedly had conversations about how we felt that he was not giving us his full attention to this job. It felt like once we gave him money, he just didn't care anymore. I cried on more than one occasion which should have indicated to him I was unhappy.
The door has an actual s**** hole in it. It's very visible after the mudding job done by ***********
The flooring was "high end" as ***** called it when we picked it out but now he's calling it cheap because he doesn't want to own that he installed it poorly. He left it for 6 weeks with strips uncompleted which then created the buckling in other areas. The scratches on the floor that ***** actually brought up in a previous message was caused by him assembling cabinets on our new floors without putting anything down to protect the floors. ***** said he could buff them right out but they are not fixable.
The grout that holds our tiles up in our kitchen is now cracking and coming undone. Our stairs and nosing for the stairs were all held together with glue and not one pin to hold anything in. The nosing has now all shifted off the stairs making them more dangerous than they were before.
The list can go on and on. I have all the photos.
Sincerely,

As far as I am concerned this is not a place to argue back and forth. After talking to multiple businesses around our community I have come to the realization and understanding that the client has done this to other contractors in the past. The responding letters from this client in the complaint are not even related to the original complaint. The customer has complained about me not showing up everyday to the job, however they left for personal vacations twice which left me out of work and having to start other jobs while they were gone. As for the issues this customer is claiming they have, they have not once reached out to me regarding these issues. I tried to contact them after finding out they had slandered my company using false statements. I am more than happy to fix any damages they have with the work I have done but they have not contacted me since the job was completed. I was also told by the client that they had no more funds for this job. As *** said before and I will say it again one last time, I was told the client was satisfied with the job when it was completed. I also told them to contact me if there were any issues which they did not and I WILL provide any and all receipts and bank statements related to this job. I will not continue to tolerate any more false and ********** remarks against my business, or attempts at ********** claims and have already taken legal action. If you require receipts and statements for this job they can be provided.

I am rejecting this response because:This is not getting us anywhere. ***** Watkin is continuously making up false statements. I've never had any other contractors in my home so I'm not sure where he's getting his information from. Previous to this my father did the work for me so again a false statement that has no backing.I know what I've experienced Having ***** Watkin in my home and the reason we haven't asked him back is because he isn't welcome here. He's the one who called yelling and screaming and then hung up on us. We could do this back and forth stuff until we're both blue in the face.
As stated previously to ***** Watkin we will be pursuing this in small claims court.
Sincerely,
