I bought a used vehicle from Salesperson Jonathan from Discount Motor City. Just after 2 days, I got Service Engine Soon light on dashboard), I took the car to dealer and found that it has Cylinder-4 misfire and Salesperson Jonathan instead of helping me he was very furious and refused to help and ask us to take the car to Mechanic and agreed to pay $100-$150 as a compensation, I got it fixed and paid $280 (Attached with supporting document) but later he turned hostile and refused to pay any amount. Just after running the car for few more days, I suddenly faced engine hard start issue, after diagnosis from a mechanic, I got know there is Head Gasket issue, and engine is in bad shape and has safety concern, thus, NOT safe to drive with family, because of that mechanic suggested to have engine replacement and the estimated cost is $3300 (Attached with supporting document) * ** *** ** ****** *** **** * ***** **** *** ** ****** ***, I literally requested dealer during purchase, that please show me a car which is reliable as per my budget as I will be using for my family. Dealer assured me saying that this is the most decent family car in his lot, and now I'm facing a lot of issues after purchasing this vehicle from dealer, I'm afraid of going again to dealer as Jonathan and his Dad were yelling at me when I went for the first time after purchasing. My Sincere request to BBB that, kindly request Dealer to get this issue fixed for me. Thank you.

    Business Response

    Date: 16/07/2023

The owner purchased the vehicle from Discount Motor City, March 26, 2023.  The vehicle had been independently inspected and confirmed by an independent certified mechanic to be meeting all requirements of our dealership for sale.

The car is a 17-year-old car, which had 197,000 kms.  On May 25, 2023, two months after the purchase, the owners took the vehicle to a ****** Dealership to have it inspected as they were experiencing a hard starting issue.

The ****** Dealership said all the cylinders were clean and fine.  The ****** Dealership said there could be a head gasket problem but would need more time to diagnose.

The car was brought to Discount Motor City Ltd. and the owner complained about the head gasket saying they needed a new motor that would cost $3,000.  The car was not overheating, which would occur if there was a head gasket problem.

We agreed to pay part of an inspection cost, and taking the car to a mechanic, they had work done that was beyond an inspection and which they did not tell us about.  They wanted us to pay for part of the work which included changing a coil pack and putting in new spark plugs.  Their bill was $280 which we paid part of.

They suggest our salespeople were yelling at them.  That is absurd. Our staff does not yell at customers – and we have a witness who has emphatically stated “there was no yelling.”  We pride ourselves in our professional and courteous customer service and share the same values that most people attest to – and one of those is “be kind to your neighbor.”  It is disingenuous to throw something in your face that they have no basis of proof.

The bottom line: The car was not hard starting when purchased from the dealership.  There was no evident head gasket problem.  We helped them the best we could, and one has to consider this is a 17-year-old car with almost 200,000 km.  And this is just one example of why we suggest to customers that they purchase a warranty to protect themselves.  In the scheme of things, there is always a risk to buying an older used vehicle and a warranty can give the peace of mind if something, like this, that no one knows about, occurs.

    Best wishes

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

This Response from Discount Motors is full of ****.

I bought this vehicle from Discount Motors on 26-Mar-2023 and just after 2 days I got "Engine" light on, I have clicked the photograph and one can validate its authenticity.
On 1-Apr-2023, Afternoon, I took this faulty car to Discount Motors (Suggesting to check CCTV for evidence)
and I have text messages from them advising me to take the car to their suggested mechanic for repair. I did that and paid $280 but they had never paid a single penny out of it.

Around 2nd week of April-2023, I got to know that they had sold me an unsafe vehicle which has a blown head gasket and I did raise this concern with *** as well.
Upon ***'s request discount motor had asked me to drop this car to their dealership and said they will look into it, but they had done nothing and returned me the car saying there is no issue and asked me to get it diagnosed with ****** (I have an evidence)

Salesperson from Discount Motor advised me NOT to take warranty on this car mentioning its a decent family car in their lot and you don't need to get it covered under warranty.

I have collected all the evidences with me and I don't deserve Engine light to be "ON" just after 2 days of purchasing a car from the dealership.
I have been to several mechanic after purchasing this car and each one of them said that, this car is not safe to drive.
I had reported this to authorities just within a month of purchase.

    Sincerely,
