1 starThey were not authorized to take money out of my account. They took $300 out. I hadn't been with them for over 6 months so don't know how they still held on to my banking info. They toom $300 out. I disputed it with my bank, *********. They approved the dispute, however bench, who is affiliated with *********, lied and said that the payment never posted. That was a blatant lie. The day I disputed the transaction, bench closed my account that I hadn't used in over 6 months. There is nothing legal that Bench accounting is doing *** ********* WHO ID affiliated with then, will protect them even when they are doing illegal stuff. They stole from me. I'm having to seek legal actions over this. I'm still in disbelief how bench accounting and ********* can get away with this. I'm not the only one they have done this to. Something should really be done.Review fromJohn H

1 starIf I could give negative 1000 stars I would. DO NOT FOR ANY REASON USE THIS COMPANY. They completely f***Ed us out of $4500. We paid the year in advance for bookkeeping for our business and to file business and personal taxes. We had to do more bookkeeping ourselves than in any previous year. Then at the end of the year they filed bankruptcy, sold the company, kept our money, wouldn't release our books and didn't file any taxes for us. Then the company that bought them tried to extort us for 2 grand more to complete the services we already paid for. There is a special place in H*** for the people who run companies like this. RUN as fast as you can away from this company. Incompetent and ZERO integrity. Just straight up criminals honestly. ?Review fromErin W

1 starIf I could leave a 0, I would. Sadly I experienced the same awful services that the rest of the Bench former clients have left reviews for. The absolute scariest part of my experience is the errors in and flat out fraudulent billing I experienced. They charged us double the first 2 months we used their services in 2024. Each time I brought it to their attention they were quick to apologize and said it won't happen again. One of the charges they refunded immediately. The other took a few days. We requested not to move forward with their services for 2025, yet was billed $499 in ******** $1300 in February, and $699 in March (why the different amounts I have no idea). That's almost $2,500 they fraudulently deducted from our account. And they will not refund the $499 from ******** citing that I needed to cancel 2 weeks before they pulled the deduction, however, they deducted payment 2 weeks early (again, no idea why). All the while they never finalized our 2024 books. Clearly, there is trouble in this business. I would NOT recommend anyone using their services.Review fromCasey H

1 starThe worst business and service experience Ive ever received. I chose bench in a hurry to find a small business account and tax filer to prepare for my 2024 taxes. Havent gotten setup in over 5 months extremely late on my taxes, unfulfilled promises, impossible to get in touch with virtually anyone, oh and they went bankrupt in the meantime. I am just 22 years old and this is my first time dealing with a business accountant and it has been extremely horrible. They looped me in to signed some agreement with a lender that refuses to wave my payment plan although I have already cancelled with bench for a month. Cant get in touch with anyone from Bench on the matters, and theyre trying to increase my rates from $500 a month to $750 a month. ******% a scam, even after abrupt changes they will not let you get out of your contract with cap ***** and will not help you in any way. I feel trapped I do not have the funds to pay these guys $10000 annually for little To no work, and I dont know what to do. Will most likely try to take legal action if I cannot recover the funds and get out of this scam of a contract and company. If you see the word bench, do not click!!! Run!!!!!!!Review fromLisa D

1 starAvoid Bench Accounting and whoever just took them over. They are inaccurate and you will waste money and time using them. We used them for the entirety of 2024. The last week of the year we get an email saying they closing snd will no longer do our books. What they had prepared was unusable and inaccurate. Then in Feb they start charging my credit card for twice. After they fired us! Then we have to make a telephone appt to get this resolved. The call was then referred to some unattainable office and delayed for more time. Then we get an email saying they need 60 days notice to quit them. They fired us, without any notice. Then charged our card fraudulently, then refused to refund! They are crooks. You will waste money if you go to them. *****.Review fromKyla B

1 starBench is an actual scam. While I've been diligent about categorizing my transactions, keeping accounts connected, and continually checking for any outstanding action items on my end, they left my books untouched THE ENTIRE YEAR until I finally threw a big enough fit. And now, they've let me know they won't be able to finish my books on time for taxes and I'll need to file an extension - despite my Bench alerts assuring me "I'm all caught up!" They switch your accountant all the time so no one knows what they're doing (I've had AT LEAST six accountants in the last six years) and they are hard-to-impossible to get ahold of. I truly don't know what I've been paying for all year - I feel like I've flushed money down the toilet and then some, given I know have to have an *actual* CPA review my books and file an extension. RUN AWAY!Review fromJessica M

1 starI began working with Bench back in late 2018/early 2019 -- at the time they were a wonderful start-up with people who really cared, communicated regularly, and did a fantastic job with my small business' books. I recommended them to friends and was happy with their service. In the last 2 years especially, communication has drastically fallen off. I decided to switch to a smaller company for my services and canceled in early December 2024, with confirmation from the agent I canceled with that because I paid into my Bench Tax subscription all year, my 2024 bookkeeping and accounting were covered. Then came the shutdown and buyout by ************ -- something that was not even hinted at by the company to users at any time until it was already a mess. Spurred on by fears that my data would no longer be available to me (after it wasn't during the shutdown and other users online made it clear that data was not readily available to download without agreeing to ************'s new terms), I agreed to ************ having access to my data so I myself could have access to it.A couple weeks later, I received an email from Bench saying that because I no longer had an active subscription they would not be finishing my 2024 books OR doing my accounting through BenchTax after all. This was all legally valid because of the buyout. I have no recourse because of this to get my $600+ back that was already paid for my accountant. ************ has chosen to not honor what little integrity Bench had left. The higher *** have simply been greedy -- I have seen reviews here showing it could've been even worse for me, as some users haven't had books updated that were paid in advance for over a ******* someone who was once a big fan of Bench, it pains me to say - do not work with this company. They do not care about their customers in the slightest.Review fromMatt H

1 starDuped and misled.I signed up for historical bookkeeping and ongoing monthly bookkeeping in October 2024. I was scheduled to pay for it over the course of a year in installments. In December, they filed for bankruptcy. They were acquired by ************ but I opted out of their service because their bookkeeping is absolute trash (I confirmed this in multiple calls with accountants who agree with me).The service I received was subpar, shoddy at best. AND even though I'm no longer receiving service, I have to pay these montly installments on an ongoing basis. This is borderline a scam, and this misleading advertising and sales tactic was manipulative and gross.I hate playing the victim, but this is a really awful way to treat customers.Review fromAngus M

1 starHere's a polished review for Trustpilot based on your complaint:Title: Extremely Disappointed with Inaccurate and Incomplete Bookkeeping ServicesI signed up for Bench's bookkeeping services in September, expecting professional and accurate records within the 1015 days they promised for historical bookkeeping. However, nearly two months later, my records remain incomplete, and the work done so far contains hundreds of miscategorized transactions. Despite repeatedly submitting requested documents, my accounts are still inaccurate, and there seems to be no end in sight. The Terms of Service state they will deliver "accurate monthly books and year-end tax-ready financial packages." Unfortunately, this has not been my experience. For two months in a row, I've received inaccurate monthly books, and I now lack confidence in their ability to complete accurate year-end financials. Had I relied on their data for tax filing, I would have drastically overpaid in taxes.Despite reaching out and escalating to their management, Im left with the feeling that this service is not delivering on its promises. I paid over $4,600, and yet Im now hiring another provider to get the job done correctly.I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience. I would strongly advise anyone considering Bench to look elsewhere for reliable bookkeeping support.Review fromM. H.

This company should not be in business. Very poor inter-communication. They ignored my directions from the start resulting in late filings and thousands of dollars of penalties. They said they would help mitigate the fines and now I can't get a hold of anyone. ***** this business. Unbelievable they operate this way.Bench Accounting

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Were genuinely sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration. We always strive to provide clear communication and timely support, and we regret that we were not able to meet your expectations in this instance. Its important to note that we were brought on after the filing deadline, and as a result, some challenges arose in meeting the necessary deadlines. We also understand that you chose to discontinue our services for the 2023 filing, which further impacted the process. We truly wish we could have done more to help resolve the situation, and were always available to discuss any outstanding concerns.M. Thank you for a response. Another fundamental misunderstanding of what was communicated. You were brought on after the 2022 filing date, yes. I canceled services after you failed to meet the 2023 filing date. From the very beginning of my communications with you, I had one major requirement that continued to be missed. I have tried to discuss outstanding concerns and have not been responded to until now on this platform.
