Work was done to replace a thermocouple in my furnace and clean the area around it. While working, the service man urged this homeowner to purchase a new furnace and heat/cool exchange for $17,000. I listened to the reasoning for this and said I would consider it and get back to them. He stayed after the repair and repeated this again urging me to act quickly. The company owner has phoned several times urging me to buy this, although I had said no at the first call. I will not answer further calls from the owner.

When we first received a request to repair a furnace, we were there within 2 hours and corrected the problem by replacing the thermocouple. Originally, some other person had said that she needed to replace the gas valve, which would have cost significantly more money but we were able to solve the problem for a much less expensive repair. The furnace is over 40 years old and the technician was simply recommending a replacement with a much cleaner and more efficient option. I followed up with the customer the next day to see if she needed more information. Her response was **** and dismissive. When I called again after a week without receiving payment, it was to arrange payment for the outstanding bill, which we have still not received. I offered to pick up a cheque but she hung up. In no way could our actions be construed as applying any pressure to buy a product. I dont expect that she will pay her bill.

Thank you BBB for sharing this reply. I have paid my bill in full, despite this being more that the owner's estimate. When I asked why it was a higher amount, he said "OH I don't know what he (the technician) did, an estimate is only an estimate" Then, after my furnace was just repaired, and telling him that I did not want the replacement at this time, he persisted in a lengthy repetition of what his technician had told me. I couldn't get a word in so I hung up the phone. The owner called a few days later and did this again, so once again I hung up. I have now blocked his phone#. I'm sad to have to do this.
