  Mathnasium's new student assessment contains math questions that ********** *** ******** are ************ above a given student's current grade level. This skews results lower than they should be when testing a student for their current grade level competency. This can motivate a parent to pay for more math tutoring services than are actually required.

  The parent has expressed a disagreement concerning the student's assessment results from her school versus the assessment administered at our center, where she achieved a significantly higher score. We have communicated to them our approach, which emphasizes evaluating students based on their current knowledge and the skills they need to acquire. This approach involves incorporating questions from various levels of the school curriculum. We maintain complete transparency by informing parents about the nature of the assessment in advance and that our Checkup 5 assessment does not correspond to Grade 5 assessment.It's notable that the parent does not seem to raise any concerns about schools conducting assessments without revealing the specific questions. They accepted the school assessments at face value, even though it's possible that students may not have received instruction in accordance with the BC government curriculum, as demonstrated by our assessment. In contrast, our assessment process is exceptionally transparent. We provide the entire assessment to parents, allowing them to review each question and see precisely what we evaluate. It's challenging to envision a more transparent process.
