Maderaworx did a home renovation project for **, from Oct 2022 to Jan 2023, inclusive. The work was done in two phases. Phase 1 was estimated at 50k and it ended up costing above 80k CAD. A price, or even a rough quote, for the work we requested as Phase 2 was never provided, verbally or in writing, despite our repeated requests. Despite our express requirements, a number of mandatory components in Phase 2 were not delivered, namely:1) levelling the newly laid utility room concrete floor, 2) installation of the washer/drier, 3) installation of the kitchen hood/fan 4) installation of multiple light fixtures (the electrical wires were left hanging), 5) the making-safe of electrical wires with wall socket/plates, and 6) installation of the gas fireplace They also unilaterally chose to ignore specific work requests that we wanted included in Phase 2, and instead spent their time performing work that we had expressly excluded as non-critical, such as the painting of the interior walls. Upon exiting the project, they left large amounts of construction waste both inside and outside the house (including concrete and drywall). They took the position that it was not covered by their fee, despite the fact that it is the kind of waste material generated by renovation projects, that ordinary homeowners cannot easily dispose of. The result is that we do not have access to a significant part of our basement until the waste is cleared out and will incur a large expense to have someone remove it.They charged us 30k at the start of the Phase 2 in early Jan. ** the end of Jan they invoiced us for additional 46k. That cost came as a complete shock to us as there was no estimate or contract of any kind except for a verbal estimate that the entire house reno should cost around 120k. We covered 30k of 46k, leaving 16k unpaid to-date. We feel that we have been overcharged by paying over 150k for an unfinished, unsafe house and would like to get a credit note for the remaining 16k.

We do not respond to complaints without legal counsel, nor do we prescribe to the BBB where firms are subjugated to information that is one sided. We are in contact with the client. Thank you.

    Better Business Bureau:??

We have reviewed the response made by Maderaworx in reference to complaint ID ********.

Maderaworx has reached out to us directly and has verbally agreed to provide us with a credit notice for the outstanding invoice, which effectively satisfies our request for the billing adjustment we put forth via your portal.

We have not received the credit notice itself or the response from them in writing, only verbally, but are hoping that they will stay true to their word. If that remains the case, we are satisfied with their response to our complaint.

    Thank you for your mediation.

    Sincerely, ??
