I purchased a house with possession of May 1st but my partner and I were not moving in until May 30th. We decided to get some renovations done prior to us moving in. I found Katherin **** with Utopia Design & Construction. Her quote which was slightly higher than I wanted so I offered $**** for the job and it was agreed upon. She stated she would accept it if I paid cash. The job was to paint much of the main level ceilings and walls. I paid 50% or $**** upfront in good faith. The communication was extremely difficult and the work was awful. I constantly had to point out missing spots where portions of walls were not painted, bubbling, pitting and even lumps occurred by not sanding mud down properly, if at all. Taping was not done in some areas causing wall paint to go onto the ceilings. In places she did tape, she damaged the walls tearing 8 inch sections of wall paint off of walls we were not painting. She set up a light and knocked it over burning a 8 inch diameter hole into my living room carpet, down to the mesh. She stated she did not have business insurance and wasn't sure what to do. I asked for the initial 50% or $**** back but she refused. She ***** the rest of the unused ceiling paint I and did not complete the job leaving the entry way unpainted with some mudding and sanding left to do. I asked via text and phone call for the $**** I had given her back as the carpet was quoted to me at just under $**** to replace. She told me if I didn't pay her not only the remaining $**** we had agreed upon but $*******, that she would take me to court. I asked her to replace my carpet. Fast forward two weeks and I receive a "Builders Lien" on my house. *** ******* ** *** **** ******* ******** ** ***** ** *** ** * **** *** ******* ** *** ***** ******** * **** * **** **** ********* *** ******* **** ******** ********* ****** *** ** ***** **** ******** ******* ****** ** *** ********* ** * *** ** *** *** ********** * **** **** **** ** *** *** **** *** **** ***********
