Had home service plus do duct cleaning today. Was greeted by the technicians in a very polite and friendly manner. They didn't hesitate to describe the work being done and let me know any additional things to look out for. Excellent work and a great job. Very friendly and helpful. Some information was passed onto me which I found very informative. The technicians cut holes into the duct which I didn't know was to be done, but the technician explained holes needed to be cut due to never being cleaned prior to this cleaning. My last furnace and duct clean up was done by Home Service Plus and I just want to share my experience regarding this. By seeing their advertisement, I decided to get their service without knowing some of the pitfalls. They did the duct cleaning and during the furnace tune up, they wiped out some dust from here and there and didn't literally do any tune ups (which is what was expected as part of furnace tune up). Then at the end of this process, they inserted a camera into the furnace box and found a potential minor crack inside the furnace which might have been there for years. ******************************** *************************************************************** ************* The technician said, he will have to turn off the furnace and block the natural gas supply to the house. Immigrating from a tropical climate where temperatures are always 25 degree Celsius+, many of us can't really live below 10 dc without the furnace heat. Having two small children and this being done at the end of October in Winnipeg, I begged him to not do that at least till I get a chance to replace the furnace and said that I can't live at this low temperature. His stand was, it is his legal responsibility *************************************************************** *********************************** Without my consent, he went ahead and disabled some of the controls on the furnace and turned off the natural gas supply into the house. He also gave us a quote on a new furnace and offered to install that in a week or so, if I sign up for that offer.
Stranding without knowing what to do, I searched in Google to find if I can get a furnace installed sooner. Luckily, a *********** salesman came by the same day. After giving a quote for his furnace, he said he is more interested in getting some heat immediately in my home and advised me to contact Manitoba hydro. The next day a hydro employee visited my home and said he don't see any issues and reset everything back.Home Service Plus Winnipeg Heating & Cooling

I am sorry that you feel your experience with Home Service Plus was not above board but I will assure you that everything we do is absolutely done with the highest of integrity. Under no circumstances do we ever lie or deceive any of our customers just to get a sale. Our policy is very clear if we say there is a crack in your furnace and hydro cannot see it we will rebook an appointment with them to show them where the cracks are if at that time we cannot find a crack we will install a brand new furnace in your home for free with zero charge to you. This is how we do things to ensure our guys are honest as our company policy is they would have to pay for the furnace themselves. I tell my staff if they are 99% sure that is not good enough. We must be 100% sure before we turn a furnace off.
As for the tune up once we find a crack in the furnace there is no more point in completing the free tune up as we have to turn off the gas as per Manitoba Hydro.
The Manitoba Hydro code clearly states that regardless of the extent of a crack in a furnace all cracks have the potential to become a serious safety hazard the furnace must be replaced or repaired. We did not claim that there is carbon monoxide in your home or that your furnace is producing carbon monoxide. We only follow Manitoba Hydro's safety guidelines.
We also never leave our customers without heat as we always carry portable heaters throughout the winter for these exact situations. And if he did not have one on him we have people to deliver them if required.
I am sorry your experience was not a positive one. I appreciate your comments and ensure that they have not fell on deaf ears. We will use this example to continue to work with my guys to ensure that they are properly explaining all options in a clearer way when dealing with our customers ensuring we always leave a good impression.
