****** does not recommend Magnetic Hill Winery, Moncton, NB
Hi everyone, my husband and I were among a group who booked a 2 hour taste and tour of the Magnetic Hill Winery.
Our 'winery tour experience' we were asked to spend an hour socializing. For this we were given a small Mimosa and small charcuterie trays.
The tasting itself was 6 very small samples. My husband was my designated driver so he drank water.
We did not receive a tour of anything. That was because the winery was in full production. First that would be the time to do a tour. Second if 1000's of bottles of wine were being made we would have enjoyed the wonderful aroma of wine upon entering the winery! No such aroma whatsoever. Third, production makes activity noise. I peeked through an observation window-no activity whatsoever. The only thing I saw was a dog sleeping like a baby on the floor. In my opinion, what I saw was far too immaculate/quiet to be a room producing 1000's of bottles of wine. It's at least possible that we did not leave the tasting room because there was nothing to tour. If that's the case, stop selling winery tour packages. Fourth, we didn't realize that the 'tour' fee would be applied. The proprietor simply talked about his personal and business history to fill in the booking time.
We were then charged $55 each plus tax. A tour fee based on 1-2 hours booking time. No one told us we would get charged for a tour we were not going to receive! We thought that was a disgraceful price and if this was just price gouging at a tourist trap we would roll our eyes, be disgusted and move on. But it's really hard to get past the olfactory senses - couldn't smell anything by way of wine aroma and no obvious production activity. That place should have been hopping!
My advice would be, always confirm what services you are paying for and what services you will actually be receiving before starting anything. We will not be deceived like this again.
    Regards,
    D
