On Friday, May 31, 2024 I took my van in to be serviced to get my air conditioner recharged. They stated that the air conditioner did not have any leaks and was in good working order after they did the initial inspection. When they went to recharge the condenser it blew up and now leaking Freon whereas before it was not. I had brought my van in to get the AC checked was because it was taking quite a while for the air to run cool. There was no leak and they have stated on their invoice that there was no leak. I paid for the initial inspection which was $73.13. They had told me that I need a new condenser which is around $330 and all set and done after labour and installation. I was looking at $1100 for my total bill. I declined that service because I needed to talk to my husband because it did not make sense to me as to why my condenser is now leaking. After explaining the situation to my husband, he called Canadian tire and spoke with one of the employees who then gave him the runaround and kept going back-and-forth. They were pretty much calling my husband, a liar. There was 100% no leak from our air conditioner prior to the visit. We know this because we park it in our garage , and there is no leaking marks underneath our van. This employee has stated that there was already a hole in it prior and that it was not their fault. However, it 100% is their fault where as it clearly states on our invoice receipt that there was no leak. It wasn’t good working order and that they were just going to recharge the condenser. we have asked for a refund and for them to replace the broken condenser. They have denied this and said they will not be paying for it. It is completely our fault. It is not there was no hole when we arrived. There is now hole and we are now leaking Freon from our van. The woman, my husband spoke to was completely unprofessional and confrontational, and we would like this matter solved at no cost to us. Canadian tire should be paying for this fully.

The customer  was only charged for the inspection and not the recharge. The vehicle  was blowing warm air that's why we were inspecting the air conditioning system. We the Tech attempted to recharge the system the system would not handle the test pressure of the recharge. The system was not blowing cold air, this indicates a lack of gas in the closed system. There was no leak that was detectable  but when you put the system under pressure leaks and defects may result in the weak part of the system.

That is why we did not charge for the recharge of the system.

So the condenser may have had a leak in it, that only appeared when under recharge pressure.

It was nothing we did as a result of the inspection but a defect in the condenser.
