Transaction date: July 26, 2024. Amount paid: $2,542.37. The business committed to provide repairs to all hardwood floors both in finish and in a color match our cherry finish original hardwood floors not needing repair. We expressed the importance of this to Majer Flooring and provided them with a sample of our original flooring to match prior to hiring. Majer Flooring promised all the hardwood floors being repaired all hallways would match the existing floors not being repaired so we hired them, we were listing our home and needed these repairs done. Dispute: We advised Majer Flooring of the damages back in Aug. 30, 2024 when job was finished. The color mismatch and poor-quality finish, ceramic tile damage, damage to baseboards, base of fireplace, basement stair bullnose. Our floors should have been fixed immediately. We were constantly reaching out to Majer Flooring by email and text and we were ignored, given excuses for all the "no-shows" to address our concerns. Majer Flooring provided Limited warranty Dec. 18, 2024. Instead of fixing our damaged floors immediately, we were given a Feb, 2025 repair date when our house is being listed again at the end of Feb. We heard that some of Majer Floorings' former clients have experienced the same lack of communication and damage to their floors, tiles, etc. and had to have them redone by another contractor who fixed their floors and who we have hired and starts Monday. We heard that these same clients requested a refund and were not given one. We requested a full refund within 24hrs yesterday or we would contact BBB. We received a threatening email from Majer today, which also contains false information. We've had a second opinion on the floors and it was determined that it was a terrible job. Cracks in the floor, damage, yellow tinge in sealer. The only way to fix this is to sand down again and start over with the correct sealer. We don't trust Majer Flooring to do the job right, they've had two chances and failed.

    Regarding the complaint with M******* ******* *

The project was completed and paid in full, with client accepting the project as complete.

The project was to sand and re finish a living room and hall that had an exotic hardwood. The wood was a pre finished natural product (meaning it was not a stained product, just had a clear finish)
The client was informed that it could take some time for the finish darken to match. The client informed us later that the colour still had not darkened.

I meet with the client December 18. We inspected the floor and I agreed that the floor had absorbed the finish and left some places with heavy grain still a bit textured feeling. I agreed that this needed to be buffed (a process where the finish on the floor is gently sanded to make it smoother, and to allow another coat of finish to bond) and coated with an oil or oil modified finish to achieve the darkening for it to closer match the floor in the rooms attached which they did not finish.

We agreed that the first week in February I would return and complete the repair. We shook hands and left.

I was going to stop back with the sample piece to show them it had darked and matched up, but we got caught up finish other projects before the holidays, which I had informed them when they text me on the 20th.

January 6th, when we returned to work, I got a message from ********** wife, demanding a full refund with in 24 hours or else. They had received a copy of our warranty, which is a 1 year warranty that we had fully intended to honour as we agreed on Decemer 18.
After consulting my ******, the letter written demanding the refund within 24 hours, was bordering extortion. I again reminded them of the agreement we made, and they said they had a second opinion who said the floors needed to be completely sanded again. This was another local re finisher, who in my opinion was taking advantage of getting a job. This was not a certified inspector from the National Wood Flooring Association.

I have attached a copy of our warranty.

Please let me know what other documentation you need.

    Thank you,

    Customer Answer

    Date: 28/01/2025

I am rejecting this response because:

Fact: Majer Flooring, M***, owner, guaranteed he would match color and finish to original hardwood floors NOT being repaired. We were putting our house for sale and this was of great concern to us as we expressed to M***.  A sample of original hardwood was  provided to M*** by us. We have yet to see this sample we had given M*** back in August 2024. Update while drafting reply to BBB on 23JAN2025: M*** sent M******l an email to say he was dropping off our original sample we provided to him and a CD we lent him.

Fact: M*** damaged our hardwood floors and everything connected to them. We contacted M*** immediately after he finished the floors about the damages. We wanted the damages fixed immediately before listing our house. M*** did not reply to emails and texts till we sent a buyer beware email then he showed up December 18, 2024 almost four months after our complaint and, with the one year limited warranty There were several "no shows" with excuses for "no shows".

Fact: We had to decrease our listing by $20,000 due to feedback from potential buyers about the mismatched color and on the quality of the finish of the floors. Pictures were attached to my initial complaint to support our claim for a full refund.

Fact: M*** agreed with us re: the damages we pointed out to him. His solution: to come back and fix already damaged floors which we agreed to, until the contractors who built our house heard about and, saw pictures of our floors and agreed our floors were damaged. Our original contactors provided us with another coa
ntractor. We contacted this company, we were told they have had to repair many of M***'s former clients floors. We immediately contacted M*** with another buyer beware email to request  refund within 24 hours or we would file a complaint with the BBB and, seek legal action to give M*** a heads-up in good faith. We have heard M*** never gives refunds, just offers to fix and, damage floors even more. We had to hire another company to fix the damage M*** did, so we are now out of pocket even more money but , the floors are now repaired and we are 100% happy with the other company's work.

Fact: If we had let M*** try to fix the damage he did to our floors again, M*** said my wife, my son and I(the clients), would have to watch him while he buffed the floors to make sure he did not miss a spot since he had no staff anymore, they all quit.

Fact:  The clients did not accept the project as complete! The clients were constantly trying to get M*** back to their home immediately after the project M*** states was completed on August 30, 2024  before listing their home September 11, 2024 to fix damages, (emails and texts can be provided to support out complaint). The clients were responsible, paid the fee for the repairs and did right by M****

Fact:  We have included pictures of the issues a buff and recoat would not fix per M***'s solution, such as: the sanding lines (chatter) in floor and damaged  fireplace, baseboards etc. (ATTACH MORE pic showing sanding lines.) The picture of the fireplace damage with old existing finish still not removed would show the poor workmanship as well. We have provided more pictures that clearly show the floor needed a full resand to be repaired.

Fact: One of Majer Flooring/M***** former clients Public review on her F******* page that pops up randomly on Majer Floorings website and, who also suffered similar damage to our floors has been attached to this email.

Fact: M*** did not honor his word to repair and match color and qyality of finish to original floors. We did not believe M*** could repair the damage so we had to hire another company. M*** needs to be held accountable for the damage he has caused, as well as, refund us. We are relisting our house at the end of February which M*** was aware of, and he booked us in for a second repair at the beginning of February. We told **** we needed the floors repaired immediately on his December 18, 2024 visit. The company we hired came as soon as we cancelled with the February 2025 repairs with M*** and requested a refund.

Fact: We can provide you with all emails and texts supporting our claims between myself, my wife and M*** if you require additional information.

Fact:  The company we had to hired was able to repair the damage that M*** did t0 our floors. We can now list our house at the original list price now that this company fixed the damage M*** inflicted, they made us a priority and we are 100% happy with the color, quality and finish on floors

Plus, we've heard from S** ****** (another client who had same issues as us). There has been 6-7 people with the same complaints

    Business Response

As I have stated before Offered to rectify all the problems. And had a date set. I was fully willing to honour our warranty and repair our work. When somebody chooses not to avail of our warranty, that is their decision and has no bearing or reflection on the company. We were ready willing and able to repair the work.

    Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because, I didn't have any confidence in M*** or the company to try and fix my floors. We believe he would have made it worse. I've discussed and reviewed the issues, with my floor, with other companies, and it was determined that M*** and Majer flooring didn't have the correct equipment or knowledge to be able to fix the floor.
