My complaint is with ‘Bombay Spices’ store at ** ******* **** **, Halifax. My wife and I have shopped there a few times.

On May 2, 2023, we shopped there for a few items for a total amount ** $27.91 paid with Debit Card. Last week, when I downloaded my **** statements for the past four months then we found a discrepancy. Bombay Spices had made two additional separate transactions for the same amount on the same date from our account without our authorization.

This we believe is fraud, almost like stealing money from us. We visited the store on Sept. 3 and inquired as to how this happened. They told us it was the banks fault and ask the **** for a refund. I think the guy must think we are stupid. The reality is two additional unauthorized transactions took place, the money went to Bombay Spices account, no goods were delivered for those transactions.

On Sept. 5, we visited our bank, **** ** ********, we were told debit transactions only take place when the store makes a request through their Debit device for the cash amount with our approval by entering the pin code. We never authorized two additional transactions for the amount totaling extra $55.82 on the same day.

Now, my wife is afraid to do debit transactions when we shop, it could happen again. We don’t know where to turn, that is why we are asking for your help We can provide you with copies ** **** statements and purchase receipts

    Business Response

    Date: 14/09/2023

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. I will like to first apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused. Our location is one ** 20+ locations ** Bombay spices across Canada and each store's POS system is monitored and maintained by AM/PM solutions. All invoices once completed from our system will have the payment attached to it as you will see in the picture posted ** the receipt by the customer. Now to resolve this issue I will require more information from the customer itself, firstly screenshot ** statement showing the other 2 transactions which were debited from customer's account and the screenshot for the actual purchase payment which was debited from their account. I can only see completed invoices on my main computer so if I have the breakdown ** the other 2 illicit transaction I can inquire about it with ******* (part ** ***) which handles all ** our debit and credit transactions. Feel free to reach out directly to get this resolved asap.

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:

    My thoughts on Bombay Spice’s response to my complaint;

Regarding their response to our complaint, it is pretty much the same
BS they gave us. I am not really interested in their Point ** Sale
system or what method their **** uses. All I know is 2 illicit
transactions occurred, my money went into their account. If they don’t
acknowledge that they are thieves, I will be that blunt.

They claim to be a reputable company with numerous stores across Canada
but they were quick to blame my **** for the 2 illicit transactions,
their intention is to keep my money. The attached file ‘Our May_2_2023
    *** debit transactions.png’ a screenshot ** our **** transactions on
May 2, 2023 shows 3 transactions by Bombay Spice, 1 legit, 2 illicit.

Any reputable business would take the matter seriously instead of
blaming our **** and telling us to get the refund from our bank. If
something does not smell right, it must be rotten, rotten to the core.

    ***************************
On Sept. 11, 2023, I sent two emails with information requested by BBB
on my complaint #20574717. Both and the emails contained exactly the
same information with two attachments each.
    1) Bombay Spices receipt.pdf
    2) Bombay Spices - May **** transactions.pdf

The first email had the wrong complaint #205747117 on the subject line
so I sent the second one. Now, I realize ‘May **** transactions.pdf’
has too much personal information like our other **** account number.
Even if you are able to retrieve this ‘pdf’ file DO NOT SEND it to
Bombay Spices. I do not trust them with such personal data. Therefore,
I am attaching a ‘png’ file with only our May 2, 2023 **** transactions
that should be enough pro** for them.
