I live in ** ********** ** Halifax NS. We have cockroaches since last 8 month in whole building and building is not taking any major action. Me and my boyfriend got sick more than 2 time. I have file complain but no action is taken by building. Even property manager also know about cockroaches issue still they are not taking this serious.

I want my rent back as not paying for house which have cockroaches.
I can’t see building is taking any major action on this. Lot of food waste lot of money waste to bring all sanitation stuff every day. I have to clean my all kitchen and house before making food this is a lot time of waste and health issue and lot of money spending on this all.

This is not a small matter it’s now on our health and lot of our money. Provide me with other unit or bugs free unit.

Every day I have to throw lot of food as it goes to my food and I need to bring it extra cleaning stuff and doing mop 3 times a day this is a lot a lot way time waste and money too.

    Business Response

    Date: 20/10/2023

    Good afternoon,

We received your letter dated Monday, October 9, 2023, regarding ID #20712372. Please find below a list of the corrective actions that we have taken regarding this complaint.

    • The unit was professionally treated on both August 25th and September 14th.
    • The tenant contacted the Property Manager to inform them the issue was still on-going, so the unit was treated again on October 12th. This time pest control focused on the most affected areas, those being the cupboards, bathroom and living room.
    • We have arranged for pest control to make weekly visits until the issue is completely resolved to the satisfaction of the tenant.
    • The entire building is also being treated on Monday, October 23rd.

We are not neglecting the issue, in fact, we are doing all that is possible to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, these situations occur, and it is no fault of anyone’s.

In terms of the tenant being moved to another unit, that is not possible at this time. We currently do not have any other available 2 bedrooms units. With zero vacancy, not only within our own portfolio but in the city, moving units is not an option, regretfully. If it was an option, we would be happy to accommodate the request.

We believe that we have been fair and responsiveness in this particular situation. If you need any further information, please let me know.

    Thank-you!

I am rejecting this response because:
I have wasted my lot of money and time cleaning house every day so killam should not increase my rent which they have gave me notice that they will increase my rent effective from December.I accept they are doing pest control but since last 6 month I have wasted my lot of money and still doing cleaning every day is not easy .they can’t increase my rent this year. Or pay me some reimbursement as it’s lot of time to keep cleaning house every day.
