    I'd like to file a complaint against U-Haul and request a resolution for the following: I had booked a Uhaul on Feb 4 '24 to move into my new apartment. I was driving down from NB to NS. There was a snow storm that day. I had left NB at 11am, the drive took 5 hours so I arrived at NS at ~4pm. We were supposed to pick up the truck at 3pm so we called as we arrived at the new apartment to pick up our keys, mentioned we were going to be late because of the storm, and confirmed that it was still ok to pick up the truck with the weather (we didn't want to drive all the way to the uhaul center in the snow if we weren't going to be able to get a truck, and we had a friend with a truck at the time that could've helped if need be). The person on the phone said yes it was fine that we were late and our truck was still available. from this info, we told the friend with the truck we don't need it and we arrive at the uhaul center to pick up the truck and they tell us that they stopped handing out trucks at 2pm because of the weather. we were then stuck having to get a hotel last minute because they failed to give us any notice that they stopped handing out trucks that day even though we had called an hour prior to confirm that our booking was still ok. If they mentioned that info when we had called, we would've at least been able to move our mattress with our friends truck that day to sleep in the apartment. I'm requesting that we get reimbursed for our hotel expenses that night, which is the least that they could do for this huge inconvenience they caused us. I have also filed 3 complaints so far; the first was responded to and rejected, and the other 2 trying to escalate have received no responses.

    The policy of U-Haul is to provide a $50 Reservation Guarantee to customers who were unable to pick up their rental for a variety of reasons. This reimbursement was provided to the customer for the issues that occurred with their rental. U-Haul is unable to predict or control weather events, which was the reason that this customer was unable to pick up, as a U-Haul location was unable to provide his equipment as they were forced to close early due to snow. I understand that the customer had reached out to contact the location but at that time it was not in the locations plans to close and they provided the best information they could to the customer. Customer was requesting reimbursement for an unpredicted hotel stay caused by this delay, but U-Haul is not in a position to provide this as the issue at hand, an extreme weather event, was out of our control.
