    We filed a Small Claims Court case against Han-Cor Construction Ltd, and were awarded judgment Dec 2024 for return of the deposit with interest. Our situation is similar to the complaint filed under the BBB Complaints Section (see complaints BBB): We provided a deposit to Han-Cor Construction in mid-April 2023 to start construction in mid to late July 2023 on a garage, and provided plans for same as purchased from the internet. Han-Cor committed to draft plans, provide a quote, and complete building permits in time for a July build. After receiving the deposit, Jason at Han-Cor was largely unavailable and not responsive until mid-summer and we did not receive a detailed (while still incomplete) quote until early September 2023, despite Han-Cor having draft plans provided to Jason in mid-April. In October 2023, after subcontracting the foundation ourselves to get started, Jason advised he could not start the project until the following spring. We were able to find someone to start right away and asked for our deposit back. When Jason refused, we tried to settle unsuccessfully over a period of time. After exhausting all efforts to settle, we were awarded judgment in Small Claims Court in Dec 2024 to return the full deposit + interest. We are now turning our focus to trying to collect. Experience has been less than satisfactory.
