I had Thompson Brothers replace my roof in August 2009. I used the shingles suggested by them and paid the full price of the original quote without trying to negotiate a lower price. The contract explicitly stated that all shingle tabs were to be cemented. In November 2013 I noticed some tabs blown off. Upon examination of the roof, it was noticed that none of the tabs had been cemented and nails were placed above the tar line where they should have been below the tar line. Since then Thompsons has been back to stick down loose tabs and replace tabs that have blown off. These tabs have blown off in winds that would have had no effect on my original roof which was cemented and nailed correctly. As of November 2020 Thompsons has refused to replace the cap shingles that have blown off. Also, because the shingles were not cemented at installation loose tabs are constantly appearing on my roof. I believe that it would be reasonable to assume that they would have a moral obligation to maintain my roof for the expected lifespan of the shingles since , in my belief, that problems that I am having is more to do with the installation methods as opposed to the choice of material. As it is, they have put me off long enough so that I probably do not have any legal recourse. Would you want these guys on your roof?

As **** indicated we retuned to reseal and repair any damage to his roof. We replaced damaged tabs and cap that came off in a significant wind event. The wind storms that we have experienced in the last 10-15 years have seem to be getting worse. The 3&1 tab shingles that are on the roof do not stand up to these winds. After Hurricane Fiona 30%-40% of the roofs had significant wind damage around the county and 3&1 shingles seemed to perform the worst. **** contacted me after the storm and indicated that he had a few more tabs off and he would like them replaced. I indicated that we would have to charge for our service. I told **** the roof performed quite well considering it went through the worst hurricane in Canadas history and it only lost a few tabs and a few cap. We have never experienced winds like this before. I recommend the newer architectural shingle or steel system that seems to perform a lot better in High wind storms.
