Streamline Custom Masonry was hired to do a job at **** ******* **** ******* ******* ******* starting the 23rd May 2023 by ******* ***** & ****** ****. After 3-4 days coming back to do small jobs and charged me an extra $1500 to parge outside foundation. My partner ****** **** paid him $9040 in a cheque and $5000 in cash because ***** stated he needed to pay his workers. My partner paid him because he trusted his friendship to ***** for many years. I feel ***** took advantage of his friend and played him to get him to pay for a job ***** was fully aware he wasn't going to finish. ***** decided to walk off job site and demanded another quote to be done before finishing the job. We told ***** the quote and plan was to be fulfilled as planned. He did not finish 3 pillars at front of house. The beam pockets were left exposed. Beam pocket not set at right height for main beam. Costing us more money to fix the existing mistakes ***** ********* made and paying out of pocket for the work he refused to finish. We would like ***** ********* to come good for the cost to finish his job that was in the quote and plan, and as we already paid to have it done. We would like ***** to come good for the cost to fix his mistakes causing our budget and timeline to be affected.

******* *****’s accusations are completely unfounded. She has provided no detail as to the job I was hired for as per the accepted quote dated November 8, 2022. I will provide all the details within to clarify exactly what I was hired for.

****** approached me the summer of 2022 asking if I could help him build a house. At the time he did not have a budget as he was waiting on the bank. He asked me to help him with the whole project at the time. Once he found out that the bank would only give him $180,000 to build the house, ****** called me to say he only had access to a limited budget. This is when he realized he would have to do most of the work himself. He then asked me to do just the foundation and I said I would. I was happy to help him with just that.

I had ****** and ******* come over to my home on November 7th, 2022 to discuss the foundation. Before the quote was given, we went through everything that could save him money. (i.e the things that they could do it themselves like damp proofing and sono tubes) It was explained that only the excavation, backfill, footing and frost walls would be constructed by me, and nothing else at the within budget quote.
They agreed to this. I can provide original quote dated November 8, 2022.

On May 16th, 2023 I did a site visit to discover the site full of debris. On May 23rd, 2023 in order to break ground we had to clear the site from all debris. This was not included in agreed upon quote. We formed footings on May 24th, 2023 and waited for inspection. Footings were passed by inspector on May 25th, 2023. We poured footings on May 29th, 2023.

We started block work on June 1st, 2023. My helper was approached by ******* about parge not being on the wall. He told her that she needed to talk to me about the extra work that she was referring to.
The block work was completed on June 2nd, 2023 and that evening I spoke to ****** and ******* about the parging. They insisted that it should have been included in the quote. I clearly stated to them that it was NEVER included in the agreed upon quote for the foundation but I could provide a quote for the parging. I provided them a quote and they both agreed on the price. There was $1215 owing to me to finish the job from the original agreed upon quote (i.e. backfill). At this time I told ****** that he could hold on to the money owed to me until the backfill was complete.

On June 7th, 2023 I received a text from ******. In this text he was claiming that the sono tubes should have been included in the original agreed upon quote. He also asked when I could start the parge. Once again I told him to refer to the original agreed upon quote as the sono tubes were NOT included in the price.

We parged and set anchors on June 9th, 2023.

******* started attacking and threatening me on my business Facebook page on Sunday, June 11, 2023 and this continued on June 12 and June 13.  (I have documented proof of her slander towards my work and business)
These allegations were made prior to the final inspection for backfill.
After these horrific allegations I decided it was in my best interest to just forfeit the money owed to me for the backfill and that I was no longer comfortable working for them.
On June 13th I provided them with a letter ( which I can provide you ) stating that I would not be providing them the quote for the extra work (sono tubes) that was needed but I would come back to fulfill my duty of backfilling as stated in original agreed upon quote.

****** had mentioned that inspector was coming that afternoon (June 13th) to do final inspection on the foundation.
I had not heard back from them with regards to the final inspection so on June 15th I contacted the inspector. He replied back on June 16th to say that the foundation had passed and that he liked the upgraded supports for the main beam. This was an upgrade I provided them at no extra charge.

    With regards to *******’s complaint.
I explained to ****** that a $10.00 bag of type S pre mix mortar would help set the proper height for his beams.
******* also states that I did not finish the “pillars”. For clarification the pillars she is referring to are actually the sono tubes which were clearly NOT included in original agreed upon quote.
As for the money paid to me I will break it down for you.
    Original quote price $12,000.00 + tax= $13,560.00
    Price for parging $1500 + tax= $1695.00
    Total amount being $ 15,255.00
Money paid down in total $ 14,040.00
    Money owed $ 1,215.00

In closing, I am appalled at these accusations and I am able to provide documented proof of all work that was to be completed.
I have honoured my obligations including many upgrades that I did not charge them for.
I strongly feel that my company is being extorted because they are realizing the actual cost of constructing a house.
