    I began speaking coaching with this business in September 2021 and for the first nine months it was a very positive experience for me. After that, things began to deteriorate and over the summer of 2022 our coaching sessions became greatly strained and uncomfortable to the point that I felt neither of us wanted to be there. My coach, being in the position of coach, took no steps to address that. I felt it would have been up to the coach to take the lead on that, but the coach did not. Rather, it was left to me to bring it up which I did and we had a very good conversation and I thought we had worked things out. However, it didn’t last. In the Fall of 2022 I competed in a speech contest which I did not win. The coach had set up a time for us to meet to review the contest recording but the coach did not show up for that meeting. In addition, over the previous months’ the coach had made it appear that he wished to be friends with me and made multiple references towards us catching up on the phone during the week or meeting for a Zoom coffee call. None of those things ever happened and I felt greatly misled. When my concerns were expressed to the ************ Club that we are both a part of, the Executive came out in full defense of the coach, ignored my concerns and proceeded to try and force me out of the Club without following the proper ************ procedures. What had once been a very positive experience became a very negative one. I share this in hopes that no one else will have the experience that I had and to say that whenever a person seeks out coaching to make sure they know what processes will be followed should there ever be a falling out. While no one anticipates at the start of a coaching relationship that things may go south, it is advisable to have a policy in place on such matters so that both parties know what to expect should things take an unexpected turn for the worst.
