On November 1, 2022, AMJ movers picked up my belongings from ** ******* ********* Ontario. Delivered November 6, 2022, to * ***** ****** ***** ******** ******, NS. A queen mattress and leather sofa were soiled in automobile gas. This is not reversible, they both still smell today and will have to be discarded. The two men employed with AMJ who were moving my items from their truck to my home acknowledged the soiled items and instructed me to file a claim. They then instructed me to sign a waiver which stated I would be provided .60 cents per pound for damaged items. I filed a claim with AMJ. The contract (The one the movers gave me to sign) provides .60 cents per pound for damaged items. I provided the exact weight of the items with proof from the store. They came back and stated that they have their "own formula" and will not give me .60 cents per pound. AMJ issued a cheque for $174.00. The two items: Queen mattress weighing 313. Leather Sofa from Ikea weight 276. At .60 this is $353.40. This is still a far cry from the replacement costs for both items which are valued at $2415 with tax. Firstly, I think it is wrong they had me sign the waiver without giving me a choice. Secondly, they indicate that all my items are "rubbed, scratched, worn" they say this is standard practice and do it for all items even new, such as my sofa. I went back and forth with many emails to Twany I.. This is her statement: "This estimate was signed and accepted by yourself, with no disputes in regards to the determined estimated weight. As you did not request or pay for full valuation protection and did sign twice for released cargo protection, we are unable to offer any further compensation. This is our final offer of settlement." However, they never gave me this choice. And I did dispute the "estimated" weight. It is funny how they use exact weight to charge me the overall price of the move, but an "estimated" or "formula weight" to reimburse me for a claim.
