I had my vehicle towed for being considered abandoned even though I left a note in windshield stating that it was not, that I had broken down and I was going to be returning to it frequently( which I did) to work on the issue. I left 2 numbers I could be reached at if there happen to be any issues in regards to where my van was parked. I was not on private property nor was I parked in a prohibited space nor was I blocking anyones driveway. After finally, tracking my vehicle down to Chatham towing I called the business and inquired as to the amount owing and asked the storage operator if I would be able to have access to my vehicle so that I could retrieve my personal belongings from within it. As I was in the process of moving, I have a lot of personal and sentimental belongings inside my van that are important to me and that I would like to retrieve from my van. I was denied access at that time to do so. I have since made two other attempts, one via communication on the phone and the other in person to retrieve my belongings both times again I was denied. I presented copies of four separate provincial laws of which stated my legal right to access and take all of my personal belongings. I also presented 2 email responses in regards to my right of access from both the Chatham MP, as well as the Chatham MPP, all of which were disregarded in a disrespectful manner. I was told I could access my vehicle and belongings once my outstanding bill was paid, Or if I paid them $200 or if I transferred my vehicle over to the business. I explained to them that this is prohibited by multiple provisions within multiple provincial laws as the only requirement needed to access and retrieve all of my belongings from my vehicle is that I do so within business hours. Of which I am permitted to do free of charge. Chatham towing has used extortion as an illegal method and bullying tactic to keep me from taking what I am legally allowed to take from my own vehicle. This isnt right

      Response to BBB complaint #********
To Whom It May ************* at Chatham Towing Service do not participate in any private property towing. Under contract with the Chatham-Kent Police we were ordered to remove the vehicle and place it in our secure storage facility. It is now and always has been our policy to release only personal documents and medications without payment, which was offered to ***************************. We, like so many other tow companies in *******, are constantly stuck with abandoned vehicles at our own expense, which is why we adopted this policy (which is industry standard across the entire province). Again, this was a police ordered tow and in no way was it our idea. We offered her more then one solution (pay the invoice and take the vehicle or pay the tow only and sign the vehicle over and take all of her belongings). Our staff kept their composer while ******* had her temper tantrum and threw papers she downloaded off the internet at them. In no way was ******* bullied or extorted and to claim such is slanderous. Lastly, contrary to her claim, which was made on camera, it is not our job to hold a vehicle free of charge until she decides when she wants it back. As her comments were slanderous, defamatory and a civil matter, I trust this will suffice. If *************************** wants her vehicle and belongings without paying the invoice, she should take us to court, we welcome the judges decision.
Thank you for your time and I trust, since this is a civil matter, you will please refrain from posting this on your website.
      *********************
