On June 17, 2024 Lindsay Landscaping provided and estimate of $18533.76 for the removal and disposal of an existing deck and to supply and install a pressure treated deck structure with composite deck boards. It was also required to supply, install and paint lattice privacy panels. The privacy panels were included in the overall price quote at $787.88. The offer was accepted and the project commenced on July 2, 2024. Later in the week we noticed that the staining of the two lattice panels was untidy and sloppy with a large number of unsightly wooden hairs or strands of wood protruding from the lattice.. We asked that this be fixed. The employees arrived the next day and on their own initiative has purchased new lattice and stain. We were never advised that they were going to purchase new lattice and stain. They were never given instructions by us to purchase new lattice and stain or to sand. I spoke to the manager and protested the extra charge on or about July 5. I received an invoice for an additional $1815.16 for the staining and sanding the two 4 x 8 lattices. I find this excessive for two sheets of lattice (10%. of the entire contract price) Given that the original quote for the installation and staining of the entire lattice structure including 4 - 4 x 4 posts, 4 plastic ground anchors, 4 stringers and 16 - 4 long 1x 1 wood pieces and 2 - 8 x 4 pieces of lattice came to a total of $784.87. I have made payment of the full amount originally agreed upon -$18,533.76 and even agreed to pay without prejudice an offer by the contractor for an additional $547. I asked for him to send me an invoice for $2400 which was the holdback of 10% ($1853.37+ $547). What I received was a request for $3326 ($1853 + $926) and later increased to $3668. ($1854 + $1815) I would like to resolve this matter professionally and ask for your assistance. I should not pay for work not requested/approved by me.
