  I brought my truck in to have a clock spring installed because I had already tried to install one on my own and ended up with a spare wire! So I called ***** (the manager) explained the situation and he told me he would order the correct part and install it on the 1st of September 2023. When he called me to pick it up he explained he also had an extra wire so he coiled it and tucked it away. I asked him for the product # he installed. Product # *****-48030, I went home and checked ****** parts which clearly stated this part does NOT properly fit my 2010 Tacoma and offered two other option. So I printed off the information, took it directly to ***** and his response was, is it working ? It is but I have a loose wire coiled up behind my air bag and a traction light indicator lit on my dash.

  Actually, the customer made the appointment because his horn didn't work.We diagnosed it as a faulty clock spring and provided a quote for repair.The customer felt it was too expensive so he tried to do it himself and botched the job trying to install the wrong clock spring and leaving himself with an extra wire in the steering column that he couldn't find a place for.It was at that point he called to have us do the work originally quoted.when the truck arrived, the steering wheel was completely apart-air bag removed-old clock spring sitting on the floor and the steering wheel bolted on 180 degrees off centre and traction warning lamp on.We installed the new clock spring, verified steering wheel radio controls function, verified horn operation, and verified the integrity of the air bag system. As I explained to the customer, the wire in question does not plug into the clock spring. It may be for a different trim package that has other options on the steering wheel that he doesn't have, but he insisted that he unplugged it from somewhere (how would we know, we didn't take it apart).Bottom line, the clock spring and all peripheral systems related to the new clock spring function properly.The client is hung up on this spare wire which is a problem he created by trying to repair something he had absolutely no business trying to repair.People should not try to fix their own vehicles PERIOD!Our shop will happily remove the perfectly working clock spring and refund the price of the part. He can take it to ****** and have them install a clock spring and have the same result he had with us.Only difference is, maybe ****** can tell him where the connector HE unplugged belongs if anywhere.We are done with this person.
