Hello. On 21 June 2024, we rented a carpet cleaning machine from the Canadian Tire located in **********, *******. We rented it to clean the carpet on our stairs which requires us to place the "upright vacuum like" machine on each landing while cleaning the individual steps using the hose extension. The upright portion of the machine has the capability of discharging solution from the central reservoir when a trigger is depressed, but this feature wasn't required for our needs. However, unbeknownst to us, the upright portion continually discharged solution without the trigger being depressed (a flaw), and we have a supporting video. This resulted int the stair landings becoming supersaturated to the point of soaking the underlying plywood. The soaked plywood leached brown tannins into the carpet. Despite our best efforts, the resulting 1/2 metre diameter stains could not be removed. I complained to the store from which we rented the machine, and was told that Canadian Tire is simply an agent for *******. I was instructed to contact ******* with my concerns, and Canadian Tire did not refund the approximately $84 rental charge. Calling the number on the agreement connected me not to ******* but to a company called ********** in *****. I answered a series of questions and was told that an investigation would be conducted. I also provided my e-mail address and subsequently received a claim investigation form which I completed and submitted was asked to complete claim investigation forms, which I did and submitted on 06 July. I was told that the investigation would take 4-6 weeks and have followed up with Rug Doctor on 18 August by e-mail and 30 August by phone call. I have not heard from the company since my claim was filed. Since then, we have replaced the carpet at our own expense. Since replacing the carpet on the landings only would have resulted in a mis-match, the entire stairs needed to be recarpeted ($5300).
