- Advertising Review:
On January 5, 2025 BBB contacted the business regarding claims made on its website and online advertising and requested they be substantiated, modified, or discontinued.
The business is advertising that they are “registered” however, BBB was unable to determine which registration this refers to.
The business is advertising that they are insured. BBB has requested substantiation of this.
The business advertises “Warrantees” and “Guarantees” but BBB could not locate any details or where the warranties and guarantees could be viewed. BBB’s Code of Advertising states when using the term “warranty” or “guarantee” the advertiser should clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty or guarantee can be seen prior to the sale.
On the website, we see the claim “Bonded”. The use of “Bonded” in advertising generally refers to a fidelity bond, which ensures that staff have had background checks and are covered for theft and losses. These are not things covered under general liability insurance. BBB has requested substantiation for this.
The business is advertising that they are “licensed” however, BBB was unable to determine which license this refers to.
The business has made such claims as “making them the go-to choice”, “with our unparalled attetion to detail”, “We are the Top Storefront Door Installers across Toronto and the GTA”, “Best Rated in the GTA”, “The permier provider of emergency locksmith services in Ajax”. Superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests.BBB requested substantiation of these claims.
The business has indicated they are ceritfied on their website. BBB was unable to substantiate these certifications.
The business offers a discount of 15%. BBB’s Code of Advertising states that sales should only last for a limited period of time. BBB was unable to locate an expiry date on this offer.
The bushiness advertises "15+ Years of Experience" however, BBB has not been able to find anything to substantiate this date.
While the business was initially responsive to our requests, the business has since failed to make the requested modifications and has not provided substantiation for the advertised claims.
