We paid Ken Brown Excavating Ltd to replace our interlocking brick near our front door. Prior to the job starting, I was quoted a FINAL amount for the work. Once the work started, the employee from the company did not seem to know what he was doing. He was told multiple times that he needed to compress the soil under the bricks, he was told he needed to add 12 inches of gravel before adding the stone dust OR use all stone dust. He did not. He requested an additional $50.00 for more bricks. This was agreed to. When the job was finished I was approached by this company for additional money. They wanted more money for the work - it was a bigger job then they thought as well as more than $50.00 for the bricks. I asked for a receipt for the bricks but they would not provide one. I asked what the final cost of the bricks was but they would not provide one. I paid $50.00 for the bricks and added what I was told was HST. In hindsight I think that had been included in the FINAL total and I was ******* - just to get more money. Two weeks after the job was finished, my interlocking brick started to sag. I phoned the owner and he said he "knew" that would happen. He knew his employee did a poor job but he was requesting additional money from me? He told me it would have to be fixed "in the spring". I have now written over 20 emails back and forth trying to get this situation resolved. The owner has said, "I never guaranteed the work". On their own website it states all work is guaranteed. He has pressed for me to write an absolution letter about his company BEFORE he will give me my money back. Not gullible anymore. He has indicated 5 or 6 times he will give me my money back so I can hire another company but when I wait for the e-transfer to arrive, it never does. Employees from other companies have ALL stated that they have never seen such a poor job in their working careers. The extra bricks in between layers were put in by us for safety reasons.
