    1. Mr. ******* of Dickson Auto Tech, indicated that he had the hard to find parts to repair air conditioning for a 2015 Ford Explorer. The work requested was to delete the rear air conditioning by capping it. There was a bay charge and the car was left with him to conduct an assessment. On the invoice it reads: "Air conditioning system inspect and report check to see of able to block off rear ac". This Mr. ********* disputes. He now claims that because there was no inspection, (which is incorrect), and he is not responsible if the air conditioner works or not after capping the back air conditioner. It is clear the vehicle was left in his possession for him to conduct the required initial inspection. There was a bay charge of $56.96

    2. The total payment for inspecting the vehicle and then returning the vehicle for the capping of the rear air conditioner was $1,320.99 The deposit was paid by myself on June 19, 2023: $264.36 The balance of $1,056.63 was paid by **** ******* on June 22, 2023. This is clearly gouging.

    3. On June 22, 2023, when the payment was made, there was only slight air conditioning. Over a period of a week or two, there was no air conditioning. On three separate occasions since June 22, I brought the car back to Mr. ********* and requested that he "top up" the air conditioning. It is important to note that on each and every occasion, Mr. ********* REFUSED TO TOP UP THE AIR CONDITIONER. On one occasion he stated that if I drove on the highway, it would improve, which it didn't. Today, I again approached Mr. ********* as asked him to top it up once again. He replied that there was obviously a leak. He also claimed, today, on July 11, 2023, that I had somehow waived the inspection and that he was not accountable for anything else other than capping. When I am overpaying in desperation the amount of $1,320.99 why would I ever waive the inspection when the inspection had already taken place (bay fee/inspection report)?

    4. Seeking refund

    Business Response

    Date: 13/07/2023

The client requested that we block off the AC lines leading to the rear of his vehicle. He was confident in his regular mechanic’s advice who was not able to perform the capping. He wanted an AC specialist to cap the lines in the rear.

An initial inspection was performed on June 19 to see if it was feasible to cap the tubes. Examination has to be done to see if it is possible Our minimum bay charge of $56.96 plus tax was billed out. On the work order which the client has a copy it clearly states:

Services Performed: “Air Conditioning system inspect and report Check to see if able to block off rear “ Deferred work was 1. Check for leaks with nitrogen compressor not starting-low system pressure 2. Block of AC lines leading to rear of vehicle 3. Evacuate (complete) and Recharge AC system includes weigh and ID

The client returned on June 22, 2023 to have the deferred work done to block off the rear lines. He declined to have the system leak checked properly. He wanted the rear capped only. Charging the system with nitrogen indicated a big leak and that the AC compressor functioned. He was advised to have the rest of the car tested for leaks after blocking the back and he declined. He was willing to take a chance that the vehicle had no other leaks. He was advised it could last 2 years or even 2 weeks. He wanted the cheapest solution to have AC working regardless of how long it would last.

He returned about a week after blocking off the rear lines and I advised him without rear AC the vehicle would take longer to cool. He returned a second time to berate me for having not repaired his car properly. I indicated that we hadn’t done a repair we just recharged system after blocking off the lines. We warranty the caps don’t leak and a proper leak test should be done on the whole system at his expense if the caps are not found leaking.

There is a guarantee on the caps blocking the AC to the rear of the vehicle only. We don’t guarantee the rest of the components; evaporator, condenser, AC compressor and 3 sets of lines that have not been serviced by us.

There will be NO refund for services approved and performed. The only inspection approved and performed was in relation to the requested capping of the rear AC lines and we checked to see if the system would start once the lines were blocked off and the system held pressure.
