Business Name: Canadian Tire ********************* Date of Service: 24 April 2025 Complaint Type: Problem with a Product or Service Desired Outcome: Refund for reinspection charge and formal review of service practices Complaint:I brought my vehicle in for a safety inspection at Canadian Tire (*********************) and experienced what I believe to be an unethical business practice. The only reason my vehicle failed inspection was due to a light tint on the front driver and passenger windowsa known, clearly visible issue that is an automatic failure under Ontario regulations.Despite this, the technician proceeded with the full inspection, charged me the complete inspection fee, and later informed me I would need to pay an additional $67 for a reinspectioneven if I return within the 10-day window. When I called to question why the inspection was started when the outcome was already known due to the tint, I called to the store and spoke to an employee named ****. He stated that its his duty and mentioned needing to pay his employees, which I took as an implication that this fee model is intentionally used to increase revenue rather than prioritize fair service or customer transparency. (Attached his voicemail message before my call to the store). This approach feels misleading and predatory. I was not given an opportunity to correct the issue before being charged, and the follow-up explanation did nothing to instill trust in the service. I believe this deserves formal review and correction.Resolution Sought:A refund of the reinspection fee or taking the responsibility of reinspection fee..! A formal acknowledgment and review of this practice to ensure transparency with customers going forward

    Hi,

As a Canadian Corporation, we follow all rules and regulation provided by the **************************. Part of the inspection is to test the level of tint on the front driver and passenger windows. For any vehicle manufactured after January 1, 2017 light transmittance must be 70% or more on any window directly to the left or right of the driver. In order to test the windows, the vehicle must be brought in and must be tested with a certified ministry tool to provide percentage of light transmission which is part of the ministry inspection. For further information please refer to the ************************** safety standards as fair service was provided.

I bought a car part (brake caliper) from Canadian tire. They require a $118 deposit be made for the return of my used caliper. I was charged hat/gst taxes for this deposit. I paid the $118 plus tax for a total of $133.34 When I brought the used caliper to store for a return of my deposit I was not given back the total amount paid. They gave me my $118 but kept the $15.34 taxes I already paid.Upon questioning why they kept the taxes I was given a store policy that states they do not have to refund taxes because I did not have old part with me when I bought the new one.
