Good day,I hired Triangle Construction to build a new lower and bigger deck.Per Contract:Remove Old Deck; Install New Deck, 4 lower, size 16x24; make as low as possible.Reroute eavesdrops under the deck; Place air conditioning on top of the deck.Cost: $7100.00 plus $1065.00 taxes, total $8165.00:Job started on July 31st and finished on Aug 1st.Issues:Old deck wasnt completely removed. The contractor kept the original frame and built an extension around it. The new deck is not lower, but actually 1-2 higher and is 22.75x16 (not 24x16); Its not even; its nailed, not screwed. The material used must be the cheapest on the market: it's a 1x6 instead of 2x6; only after 3 weeks, the wood started chipping, cracking, splintering and warping. There is vegetation growing between the boards. The deck is not even and has already started squeaking. The contractor cut parts of the siding, several panels (not sure of exact wording for these pieces, but they are vertical panels). There is water condensation at the bottom of them; looks like ants or other small bugs are going in.For one of the eavesdrops, he used a plastic extension, which has already started splitting in two.Attempted to resolve directly with the contractor:I called the week of August 21st. He said he is on vacation and will call me the following week. He showed up on Monday, August 28th, no call in advance. When he saw the areas I had marked for correction, he scolded me and said, he would not have taken the job if he knew its going to be like this.He butchered the new deck and made it even more uneven. Instead of replacing full boards, he cut them all up and replaced the missing pieces with even worse wood. The vegetation between the boards is still growing.I would like a $4000.00 refund.I do not wish the contractor anywhere near my place, or making a contact with me, or attempting to fix anything. He is rude and unprofessional.Thank you in advance for your assistance.

*************** to the complaint raised by ********************* at *********************************************************************  As a registered, licensed and insured contractor and accredited member A+ of BBB since 2014, I always try to meet my clients needs.  It is unfortunate that in this only instance, the customer does not feel that her needs were met.  ********************* hired Triangle Construction to provide and build a deck for the sum of $8165.00, taxes included, and a deposit of $1500.00 was received from her.  The job started on the morning of July 31st, 2023 and was completed by end of day on August 1st, 2023.  The client inspected the deck and was satisfied and paid the remaining balance of $6665.00 on that day.  On August 21st, the client notified Triangle that several deck boards were deficient and requested that they be replaced.  These deck boards were replaced as requested during a service call on August 28th, 2023.  The client did not indicate any other issues at that time.  I always try to follow-up on any issues concerning customer jobs and I did in this case as well.   Services provided were up to standards and the customer agreed once the deck was completed or the payment would not have been made, therefore a refund of $4000.00 will not be issued.

Triangle Construction services over 150 clients a year and any issues have successfully been addressed before a customer complaint has ever been brought to the BBB since 2014 when I became an A+ member.

    Sincerely,
    ************************;

I am rejecting this response because:

Although a job was performed, and I paid the final bill, the job turned out to be of a very poor quality. I trust "professionals" to do a quality job and use quality materials, not take a advantage of trustworthy people, or is it just single women that are being taken advantage of.

How was I to know, that only after a couple of weeks, vegetation will start growing true the planks; the wood would start squeaking, warping, and cracking, not to mention splintering. It would be impossible to walk bare foot on my "new" deck, which I used to do on my 10 year old deck.

I was very polite and patient reaching out to Triangle Construction for repairs, only to be scolded I dared do so and at the end nothing was repaired, it was more like butchering a deck: vegetation continues to grow; the deck is more crooked then ever, come spring it will have to replaced.

    Sincerely,

The job performed was according to the contract and the price quoted and followed industry standards.  Materials used were from a reputable building supplier and are specifically manufactured for decks.  The deck in question was built level, square and plumb.

Triangle Construction has provided services, including deck building, to many clients, including single women, and there have not been any unresolved issues, of trust or otherwise. It is unfortunate that a resolution could not be agreed to in this particular instance.

I am rejecting this response because:

The job wasn't complete per the contract. The deck is not new, it was build on/around the old frame.

The deck is smaller, as was indicated in my initial complain.

The deck is not lower, as indicated it should be in the contract.

The quality of the work and material is low. Only after two months, vegetation is growing in two places; boards are squeaking; totally uneven; the cracks on the boards are getting bigger by the day. By the time winter is finished, I suspect they will be broken.

    Sincerely,

    Hi triangle here

1# (CONSTRUCTION AROUND FRAME) There was no need to replace frame only needed to added onto and if frame had to be replaced would have been extra, this was verbally discussed.

2#(DECK SIZE) Deck was approximately to be 16x24 reason little less than 16 feet was because deck would have interfered with existing gate entry.

3#(DECK HEIGHT) When initially  quoted deck told client depending'on existing footing ,maybe can be done After removal of old deck it could not be lowered as to was almost touching ground as it was.Wood touching ground against ground will ****.Reason deck higher at back because we made' deck bigger and grade of yard sloped down at back making it higher off ground then front

I am rejecting this response because:

There was no discussion about using existing frame. It would have been logical for the deck not to be lower if the old frame was used.

Had the deck been re-build professionally and with good quality material, I would not be making a fuss over the slightly smaller size. In any case, if the deck was as it should have 24x16, it would not interfere with any doors.

The material used is of poor quality, already falling apart;  vegetation growing true the ************ all defects I already mentioned in my original complaint.

This is not an $8000.00 deck, I am still seeking compensation.

    Sincerely,
