Contacted PUC on the following dates: - On June 24/22 I called for new service move in hookup, was told not until I pd a bill from 12 yrs ago in the amount of $345.97. I told her I would discuss with husband and call back. - On June 28/22 A different person *** made pay arrangements with me to pay my old bill from 12 yrs ago, then they would give me service. I was told it went to collections, I never saw it in my credit report and then they changed their story and said the bill did not go to collections it was their own internal collections. - On July 14/22 I called *** back requested for a copy of the old bill as my first installment of $175 was paid. - July 3/22 I owed a new deposit of $100 for my new service deposit for new my current location. I requested a copy of my bill on same day received an email confirmation July 14/22 of a balance owing of $71.62 as they decreased it for me no longer $345.97 to $246.62. I mentioned to her this same day that we found information online showing if true that a business or Collection agency under the "statue of limitations on debt collection in Ontario is legally two years" She was not familliar with the laws and went by what her supervisor advised her. She has been pleasant to deal with, but again told her we will pursue more info on the 12 year debt. We are in hard times, not working and this debt set us back unexpectedly. We would like to find out the true laws of debt collection, and if they can withhold our services over this 12 year debt of $246.62. To date I have no receipt paid of $175.00 *** said that pay arrangement amount went towards my new account number. If they can collect a debt from 12 years ago legally, and can use this against me to not hook up new services then I leave it alone. If not, they should return my money I paid towards this 12 year debt back in full. I would like a receipt of $175.00 showing i paid towards this 12 year old bill not on my new account bill. Please help ?? ?? ??.
