Filing a complaint due to lack of transparency and communication by the college. I have no idea for certain if management has been informed regarding the complaint I made with the college. When I asked to be put in contact with management I was simply told that they were “made aware” and to continue “being patient.” I was told someone in management would contact me today and they did not. I have no patience left, partly due to the fact that I am being kept in the dark, and not being told how the college is working to resolve my issue. I graduated from the dental hygiene program in 2010. The last time I requested transcripts to be forwarded to a regulatory body was in 2018 and there was no issue. I am moving to a new state, and now Oxford informs me they have lost my records. The fact they were lost is egregious. It has been weeks of being asked to “be patient”. At one point I called on a Friday and was told the records were located and would be forwarded to the state board on Monday. Then I received a email the following Tuesday that was in fact not true and the records had not been located. This is a huge problem as this prevents me from getting employment. Most regulatory bodies require transcripts to be sent directly from the college in order obtain a license. I will be unable to obtain a license if the College does not locate the documents. I want a detailed plan as to how Oxford College is actually working to resolve this issue. Someone at the college should be looking all day everyday until my records are found. This is obviously a time sensitive issue for me. I need to be able to be employed in the state I am moving to. The days without communication from the college is completely unacceptable. Please do provide insight as to what is happening, how the college is working to resolve this issue (in detail). *** ******* *** **** ********* ******** *** ******** **** ***** ****** ******** This is completely unacceptable. What good is an education if you cannot use it to get employed, this is very basic.

I started attending Oxford college in September 2021 . My program was to end in July of 2022 . Throughout the entire time I attended my class mates and I were given absolutely no preparation into the workplace . The school is very poorly run and looks even worse inside . Our teacher quit 2 weeks before we were suppose to finish and was canceling all our lab days . All the school offered was one week of lab time wether we could make it or not . On top of my tuition the school made me pay 1400 for “ books “ I never received as well as saying the supplies while I was in class which we were hardly in class. Tuition was already atrocious so you would think the “ supplies “ would be included . I also just paid almost 400 For mlpao exam that I will likely fail because of them . They also regretted to inform us we wouldn’t be in placement on time before signing with the school . So many of the teachers we had online and in class were very unprofessional. Someone really needs to shut this school down .

      Business Response

      Date: 31/10/2022

This email is a response to a complaint that was sent to the Better Business Bureau, assigned ID ********

This is to confirm that we have read through the complaint filed regarding the MLAT program at our academic institution, and are very sorry to hear about the feedback provided by the student.
We strive to communicate in an effective manner with students and would like to clarify a few points that have been presented, as well as work towards a resolution with the student.
In the interest of providing a comprehensive response, we have summarized the assertions made by the student into distinct headers and addressed the response below.

Lack of preparation into the workplace.

The program is designed in a distinct manner where students are first taught theory, then practical components, followed by the placement which provides them with hands-on training in a workplace environment. The placement is seven weeks, 220 hours. The student has not yet started placement but has been scheduled to begin their placement on October 31st in an esteemed hospital setting, which will serve as beneficial preparation into the workplace, provided all paperwork is completed by the student.

      Appearance of Lab

The MLAT lab is equipped with all required equipment , devices and supplies. Calibration on equipment is done each and every year. We appreciate any further feedback regarding the appearance of the premises and will address accordingly.

      Instructor and Lab Session

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the instructor of the program very suddenly quit with very little notice. Oxford College actively pursued the hiring of a new instructor and sent consistent emails to update of progress. Open forum sessions as well as emails were sent, along with follow-ups, to discuss scheduling based on the availability of the students. On the basis of popular consensus, the lab training session was set for students to attend.  Upon completion of the lab training session, we did not receive any feedback from the student stating that the session was too short or inadequate.

We do understand if the student feels trepidation about their mastery over particular practical aspects and invite the student to attend currently running labs and classes, which we can provide at no cost. We invite the student to connect with the Campus Manager to make arrangements. An email has been sent from the Campus Manager to invite the student to attend additional classes.

      Book Fee

The assertion that the student paid $1400 for books is inaccurate. This assertion was made to the Campus Manager who provided a detailed explanation to the student that Oxford College only collects fees for mandatory books that are supplied to the student, in the amount of $465. The details of all books were provided. When the student expressed that one of the ********** expires after one year, the College reached out to the publisher specifically for this situation and was able to get extended access for the student.

The student also asserted to the Campus Manager that she never received books, but her access and use of books was demonstrated in a very clear email.

      Tuition and Supplies

Tuition is set at the start of each academic year, and is at a competitive rate to other PCCs. Oxford College invites the student to research the fees at other major PCCs for a comparison.

This concern was brought to the attention of the Campus Manager, who notified the student through email that all supplies would be accessible during the lab practice sessions. If the student feels that they did not partake of the supplies during those lab sessions, we encourage them to speak to their Campus Manager.

      MLPAO Board Exam

The student has expressed concern about passing the Board Exam to the Campus Manager, who responded with a practice exam and an invitation to audit further classes free of charge. The student has also been informed that Oxford College will advocate on behalf of the student to push back their examination date without further charge until their placement is done, which will provide further hands-on training.

      Placement

Unfortunately owing to the pandemic, there have been severe back-logs on placement opportunities not only for Oxford College but all PCCs. The severity of the backlog is so visible that the Ministry has created a specific category of "COVID-HOLD" for students who are unable to get placement, and the accreditation agency has allowed students to write the Board exam without completion of placement until January 2023. A placement has been secured for the student which is set to begin on October 31st, provided that the student completes the process of signing agreements, which the Campus Manager is actively pursing the student to complete.

      Unprofessional Instructors

The instructor who suddenly left with little notice is no longer employed by Oxford College, and a qualified instructor is currently teaching at the campus. All  instructors are qualified and are vetted by the college to ensure their qualifications are in place. We encourage the student to attend the lab sessions with our new instructor to gain further knowledge and experience.

      Resolution

Oxford College encourages the student to partake in the placement component of their program in order to gain hands-on experience and complete the program. We are also willing to offer additional classes at no cost should the student wish to participate. We are willing to advocate for the student's board exam to be pushed back so that she can complete the placement.

Oxford College would like to see the student successfully complete the program and is committed to engaging in a discussion with the student to explore potential options.

We highly recommend that the student reach out to the Campus Manager.

      Thank you.
