We entered into a contract with Marcello for him to perform a number of renovation tasks in our home, totalling over $23,000.00, including a full kitchen renovation and work in both washrooms ********* *********). We paid him 50% upfront and another 25% of the total after initial demolition/prep work. The job started in the second half of July and Marcello said it would be done in August. By the beginning of August, we noticed that progress was extremely slow. There began to be days where he said himself or someone else would come to do work, but no one would show up. When we asked him what happened on those days, he would have various reasons why no one came, which we gave him the benefit of the doubt, but this behavior continued. The days he did come, he would promise many things would get done that day, but he would only be around for a short amount of time and get done much less than promised. We pleaded with him to stick to the timeline he gave us since we have three kids including a one year old and the house wasn't a very safe place for children with building materials spread about and a non functional kitchen. He verbally agreed but still continued work at a very slow pace. He also said many times the kitchen walls would be ready for the cabinet installer (which had been booked a couple months prior). The walls were not ready in time. As more time passed, he answered texts and calls less often, and we would start to get large stretches of time without hearing from him. It's now been two months past when he said the job would be completed. He hasn't done any work for over a month. He stopped responding to us entirely a few weeks ago. As it stands, there is $7,470 of work that has been paid for but has not been completed. Since he is not doing the work, we need a refund of this amount to use to hire a contractor that will complete the work.
