Check-in staff discriminated against me me around 7:30pm ET on January 12, 2025 by rejecting my fully paid reservation for 2 nights upon arrival for what seemed like covert discrimination masked by a false ** excuse. Everything seemed fine during check-in until I started talking about sports and how I was visiting Toronto from Montreal to attend my first ******* game ever, and things went downhill from there as it seemed like they discriminate against people who love sports or for unconscious ****/bias reasons. One of the people serving me who ********* ****** **** ********* suddenly claimed then that they couldn't accept me because I didn't have a credit card despite having the **** card linked to my debit account that I booked the reservation with that functioned 100% like a credit card as it had a standard credit card number, expiration date, and CVV code, but the check-in staff person wasn't willing to even try it even though I'm sure it would have worked 100%, so I believe the ********** was ***** and cannot be trusted with anything said. I have stayed at many hotels/hostels and never experienced this kind of rejection at a Canadian hostel, so I do not believe for one second that the check-in staff were honest. ****** ***** **** ** ****** **** **** ** ** ********** Here, all hostels respect all people equally without discrimination by any criteria. I used my **** card at much more expensive places **** *** ***** ***** and a nicer hostel in Chicago 2 weeks ago with no problem. This place is a very cheap place that has no fridge with alcoholic beverages, so it isn't like I was going to use anything for free and run away with it. My reservation is fully paid. Not accepting my **** just because it isn't 'credit' behind the scenes is discriminatory behaviour because it is discrimination against people with no credit or bad credit as it treats them as 2nd class citizens even if they fully prepaid for their stay and offered a **** card with sufficient funds in person.

    Hello,
Thank you for reaching out with your concerns. We require all of our guests to have a valid working credit card at check-in. These terms are clearly stated on all of our booking pages. Guest must agree to these terms to book with us. We need credit cards for security purposes as we are a shared space in a hostel. It's unfortunate that you felt disrespected by our staff. We have CC TV footage and multiple staff notes contradicting what you said happened. Our staff is trained to not allow aggressive guests to check in to ensure the safety of all guests in the shared space. Our staff was willing to make an exception for you and take a debit deposit but you chose to be rude and scream at them. At this point, they are within their rights to ask you to leave the property. We are a backpacking hostel that takes the comfort and safety of our guests very seriously.
    Thank you,
    Management
