This company was hired to install a new floor in the dining room, hallway and stairs. I signed a contract on June 13, 2022 The main complaint is that the work was NOT completed. The contractor was having issues with my neighbor and he decided that he didn't want to encounter face to face with my neighbor and that he would not complete the installation. This decision was sent to my by text. Before that incident he was upset with me and the day he was to install my floor he texted me that if I didn't pay him half of the final installment he would not install my floor. Needless to say I didn't have much choice and gave him $1400 The contract clearly states that the final payment of $2825 be paid after the contract work is 100% completed. Therefore I am asking for reimbursement of the $1400 since the work is not completed.Business Response

In regards to this complaint from ******* *****. The work was 99.9 percent completed. I installed 2 floating decks for *******, I removed his railing and paint it outside, after asking the neighbour ***** to move his vehicles, which he did I than began to paint the railing with no vehicles around the work area.
I ordered *******'s floor the first time, it arrived via delivery truck,******* did not like the flooring and asked me to return it and he would pick the flooring. Fair enough! I than proceeded to remove the old floor in *******'s upstairs, awaiting his flooring to come in for pick up (which I was not compensated for my time running around for *******'s material)
******* was pretty easy going when I built the decks, when I started doing the inside work ******* and his spouse ***** became very picky and demanding. 3 coats of paint turned into 16 coats..I was also not compensated for the extra work. ******* started to tell me that I am full of excuses why his floor hasn't arrived at **** ***** several weeks later, after he was I formed via text that his new floor would take 3-4 weeks to come in. ******* became very arrogant and rude, once *******'s floor was available for pickup I confronted him at his house and we had a verbal argument over *******'s impatience with the floor. I did tell ******* that I did not feel comfortable proceeding without half of the remaining balance because of the way he was acting I did not want to get screwed over which I had a feeling that he would try and screw me over somehow. He kept complaining about how much money he has spent and that it was basically my fault, when I told ******* you seen the numbers on the contract and he did sign the contract. I even went above and beyond and built ***** and ******* and extra flower box with the left over material and they did not like the way I built it..they had no appreciation that I went the extra step to do that for them..
Aside from this, his neighbor ***** is another problem. The whole job in *******'s back yard ***** would be outside all day watching us making sure we were doing things right..at one point he even came and stood in *******'s backyard for 3 hours didn't say a word to us, finally I had to call lunch time to get him to leave.
I did end up picking up *******'s floor after several back and fourth trips to **** *****. I installed his floor, minus the stair nosing because ******* had ordered the wrong size, it was up to him to take them back and return them, he asked me too and I refused to. He said he would call when he exchanged the stair nosing. About a month goes by and I received a call from his neighbor ***** about over spray paint on his suv accusing me that my worker had did it, I did tell ***** that I did ask him to move both of his vehicles before I started spray painting, he moved them right away onto the street, far away from the over spray. I refuse to do anything for *****,and I refuse to refund ******* any money. I told ******* due to the dispute your neighbor and I had wouldn't be going to finish his stairs edging. Their is a balance from ******* owing of 1500 I told ******* to keep the money and hire someone else to finish the stair one due to conflict of interest. I've been more than fair with ******* communicating to. At this point I have nothing to offer ******* or *****.
Thanks

I am rejecting this response because:1-only about 80% of the work was badly completed, only half of the stairs was badly done, the new carpenter had to remove most of the flooring in order to repair.
2- the issue with ***** my neighbor has nothing to do with completing the job..the disagreement was between them not me3- I hired a contractor assuming he would bring in experts to do the job..well ***** brought in his family to paint, lay flooring, spray paint..etc..therefore my reason for being critical of the work.
4- the painting..he didn’t do 16 coats..he tried drywalling one major wall but couldn’t sand it properly so he tried to hide it with paint, the bumps are still there and anywhere he patched
5- all materials were ordered by him and then I paid him..I have legitimate proof from the contract and my e-transfers so when he says he says I ordered the wrong stair nosing he is 100% incorrect
6- the extra so called free box- he knew it was for planting, well the hole was so small I wouldn’t be able to plant anything and it was with extra wood from the job
7- he states that he wouldn’t complete the job due to conflict of interest - unbased since the conflict is with my neighbor and not me, why should I suffer the consequences
8- also whatever flooring was left he took..so I had to purchase more
9- the issue of payment - I told him often that I would pay him once it was completed..I would never screw him since my record of previous payments which was most of the contract is evident, I never gave him reason that I wouldn’t.
10- to recap my contract states that the final payment was only due when all was complete..wel it wasn’t so I am asked for the extra $1500 I gave him during the floor hostage scene.
Sincerely,

Here is some pictures, my work was done neatly and properly. The conflict with ***** has alot to do with *******, ***** was like a supervisor when I was at *******'s house working. ******* was getting impatient waiting for his new flooring to come into the store for pickup, he was starting to give me a very hard time why the flooring was not in yet and he wanted it done asap. I explained that this hold up was not my fault due to ******* changing his flooring after the first flooring was delivthat he didn't like after the fact that he picked it out and purchased it. Multiple **** ***** trips for ******* that I was not compensated for. My stepson is 15 he had a summer job with me, my wife's sister helps me paint when I have painting to do. The job was done, beyond *******'s expectations, ******* just isn't happy that he had to spend over 20k to do all this work, he didn't realize how expensive material is now, he complained alot about how he spent too much money and it was my fault. I did a nice job on *******'s decks and flooring/painting. I never finished the job due to ******* giving his neighbor my business number and harassing me and demanding I pay him for something I never did. I always take extra precaution on my sites, which is why ***** was asked to move his vehicles prior to painting his railing. A month later I get a call that I over sprayed his car, impossible when he moved both vehicles on the road. I think I was paid fairly for the work I completed. Their was no extra flooring for ******* to purchase their was no flooring for ******* to remove, the flooring was fine after install. All that was left was the stair nosing. I texted ******* and explained why I wasn't coming back to finish the work and that the balance owed to me once I did finish it, he could keep to hire someone else to finish the stair nosing (1 hour max) job. Which was more than enough to compensate the finished work. I think at this point because ******* spent money he didn't want to spend, he is trying his hardest to get money back from me. Unfortunately I am not willing to refund ******* any sort of payment, especially after he got his neighbor ***** to call me and try to get money out of me.
I was paid fairly for the work I did at *******'s, at this point I'm done arguing with *******. ******* is my only bad client so I'm not worried about *******! I ask this matter with the *** be removed and dismissed. I have pictures of my work that the work was 99.9 percent completed with no defects. I will not be reimbursing ******* or his neighbor.
Thank you

I am rejecting this response because:
His last reply is full of errors. I agree we are not getting anywhere. At the end of the day, my main issue is that he broke the contract and he still refuses to reimburse my $1500.
Sincerely,
