Complaint against Nationwide Roofing & Renovations. ********************* is the person I have been dealing with. My name is ************ acting on behalf of All ************** in *************** at ******************************************. The contractor repaired one of the many roof slopes at the church in February during a warm spell this winter. He was paid as agreed to. **** reported that another section of roofing shingles need to be removed and replaced, a section that is difficult to get to and not visible from the ground. I agreed that he do the work and a cost was established at $4,850. taxes included. He asked for a deposit of half the cost "for materials". On April 10/24 I personally gave **** a cheque from the church for $2425. Since then, I have been in touch with **** almost weekly by phone and text asking when he would do the work. He had several answers like trouble with his van, unsuitable weather conditions, a fall. May 24 **** said "...if not by next week I will refund there(sic)money ".June 3, I emailed "this delay has gone on too long. I would like you to refund our deposit this week" . **** pleaded for "one more week " . No show. No response from him to now, June 18. While the roof is not yet leaking, we at the church have had our tall organ which is directly under the faulty roof covered to prevent dust from entering it since February. We want Nationwide to formally tell us he is walking away from this job and refund our money immediately. We want to be able to hire another company to do the work without risking complications from Nationwide. An alternate contractor will want to be assured that they do not have to worry about interference from Nationwide. How do we do this ?

    Customer Answer

    Date: 29/06/2024

After phone calls to the roofer pressuring him to come to do the roofing work, **************** came to the church on Wednesday June 26 to do the agreed upon shingling.  The metal work was started the next day.   The work is not finished.   There may be a piece of metal left to install.  2 planks fastened to the roof to support the roofer remain in place.     ************

I am writing to file a formal complaint against ****, a roofing contractor with whom I signed a contract on March 13, 2024. The contract was for a comprehensive project involving the replacement of roofing, fascia around entire house, evestrough, a window replacement and covering wood around window with metal. As of today, only the roofing has been completed, and the fascia is only partially finished. The window remains untouched, and the metal framing around the window is still incomplete. This situation is unacceptable given the time elapsed since the contract was signed. We have already paid **** over 90% of the agreed-upon payment, with only a balance of $600 remaining. Despite our numerous requests for him to complete the work, **** responded by telling us not to pay him the remaining $600 instead of committing to finishing the job.I decided to hire **** after seeing the BBB logo on his truck, thinking that he would be compliant with BBB standards and practices. However, his lack of professionalism and failure to fulfill his contractual obligations have caused us significant distress and inconvenience.I am seeking the Better Business Bureaus assistance in resolving this matter promptly. Specifically, I request your intervention to ensure that **** completes the outstanding work to the required standard or facilitates an appropriate resolution.Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and a swift resolution.

I am rejecting this response because:
Its not true what he is saying, its remaining balance is $600 and I asked another contractor to give me the quote to finish the job. He told me 3k. I am willing to pay $600 and complete the remaining job in the reasonable amount of time and properly.

The original contract was signed in early March and now is mid June and work still not done. Its over three months.

This person keeps threatening me to take it to collection agency. Doesnt make sense.

    Sincerely,

I contacted Nationwide R&R on June 9th, asked for estimated on installing the eavesdrop for my property. They provided a quote for $1250 and asked for a deposit. I e-transferred on June 20th and they agreed to start the work on June 22th. After many time deferred on their end due supply not yet came and/or weather. I contacted them on July 5th asking to start the work since the City order due date is approaching. I told them if they can't do it then give me back my deposit so I can find other to do the work. They says to give them until the 10th, if they don't do it they give my deposit back. July 10th comes and goes. then they ask to give them until July 12th. I start to get iffy about their business and search on **************** July 12th comes and goes again, nothing. By July 14th, I told them they have a scam business and I will report them to the police. They got angry and says they don't need any of this, they asked for my email to give my deposit back within the day. The day went by and nothing. On July 17th he contacted me after seeing my review on the site, saying he will start the return of the deposit. Up until today July 25th there is nothing from him.

***** **** has hired NationWide Roofing to carry out a leaking roof repair on his home in October of 2022.
He Paid $450 for this service and the repair was considered to be done.
However, the repair did not solve the problem causing a substantial damage to the interior of the house.
***** has called the company owner many times and finally in January 2023 one of the company's employees showed up at *** ******** *** to investigate the problem. He concluded that additional repair would be required and called the company owner to explain the situation. After the call, the employee of Nationwide Roofing spoke to ***** and informed him that additional fee of $250 would be needed to cover the repair, specifically the materials. ***** paid the employee such $250 (in cash) and nobody ever came back to fix the problem. Upon multiple conversations between ***** **** and **** (owner of the business) ***** was offered several appointments by the company to fix the problem, but every time nobody came. Finally, the company stopped answering ***** calls. This is when ***** asked his son in law (***** ******) to intervene and reach out to ****. At the beginning of February, ***** ****** called **** and has learned that the problem was not fixed properly or in the correct location of the roof and additional roof repair was needed which would cost additional $450 on top of the original $450 and $250 already paid , thus for the total of $1,150. One ***** learned about this amount, he decided to hire a different company and requested his $250 back. **** has agreed to pay it back and had setup multiple appointments to stop by ******* house to return the $250. Unfortunately, **** never showed up.
***** ****** reached out to **** via calls and text messages and was promised a resolution a multiple times , but it never happened. ***** ****** asked to return the $ via in person pay back to ***** or by email-transfer to make it easier on ****. This never happened either and **** kept delaying his return of $250 from one week to the next explaining that he has no monies and waiting for better business days. In summary: ***** **** is 92 years old and he is very distressed as he lives on Supplemental retirement pension and every dollar counts. **** ********* *** ****** ***** ************* ****** *** ********* ********* ***** entrusted in the Nationwide Roofing company because of its business card showing BBB affiliation and a Guaranteed workmanship and 20 years experience.

    RE COMPLAINT********    - March 29,2023

Last year we were called out to repair a leak. We found out that there was no chimney flashing. We were out to repair it with new chimney flashing. It was months after that they had called to inform us that he had a leak, We went out to inspect the leak and it was in a different area on the flat roof and not where the original repair was to the chimney. I informed him that if he would like the repair to the flat roof them it would cost more money. Client was ok with this but I believe there was a issues with a language barrier which may be the reason why he was not understanding what I was stating. The flat roof leak was not included in the chimney work quote. The additional $250 was not for the deposit. The $250 was for the inspection of the flat roof as it was on an over 2 storey house. Since he is a senior and there is a language barrier, We ask for 30 days to refund his $250 back to the customer. The clients son in law is not correct and there is false info in the complaint stated. He stated that the roof was leak after we went to Complete the repair (Chimney repair) but its not the same area of the house and is a whole other job on the house. This is why the job costed additional money to complete as it was not the same quote for the chimney. The flat roof leak came months after the chimney was repaired No calls after the chimney repair was completed for that issues for months after then the flat roof started with the leak.

NOTE: This is our fault for not writing up a contact with this client to have this agreement set in stone.

On Aug 29, 2022 I paid **** $3000 (via etransfer) as a deposit to fix the balcony flat roof and few Trusses under it. He quoted the price as $6400 and asked for the $3000 deposit. He never started the job after many requests. He promised many dates to finish. Balcony was leaking and it was damaging the Trusses in the ceiling of the garage. After manny tries and many phone calls, he agreed to return the deposit. He never returned the deposit and stopped answering my calls and messages. I was forced to hire another vendor to finish the job. Now I am chasing **** for my deposit back. It is an unfair and unethical business practice by him and his company. I want my $3000 deposit back.

    RE Complaint ********:

In paragraph 1 customer is saying that there is  few trusses that were damaged and roof. He is also saying that we have not been there but we have, and we have pictures which were provided to the customer to show him the existing damage of the roof before we completed any work. The roof and trusses were all full of mould and damaged plywood deck. Due to weather conditions and emergencies we were held up from starting the job. I would offer 3 consecutive payments of 1000 (Via post dated checks) Mailed to the address above. Although we did receive via e-transfer our company policy is to refund by company cheques. We do regret and apologize for any and all inconvenience that this caused this customer.
