My father, age 81, purchased a refurbished ******* ****** *** from **** ****, business owner. He was charged $804, promised it was in perfect working order. The speaker was not working and my father tried to return it. Mr. **** told my father that the phone was working fine, and "you must be deaf in your left ear." My father asked for my assistance, so I attended the store with him. On arrival, my father said that Mr. **** had agreed to repair the phone. I informed dad that this phone sells brand new for $800 and $350 refurbished, that he had been badly overcharged. I spoke to Mr. **** about the broken phone and the overcharged price, asked him to refund or at least charge fair market price, explaining that my father is a vulnerable senior citizen on fixed pension income. Mr. **** refused, stating that it was my father's problem if he didn't know any better, and told me to leave the store. I remained because my father is not tech or market savvy, and being vulnerable, had asked for my help. Mr. **** told my father that he had a 1 year warranty on the phone from *******, and if it wasn't working, to contact *******. I replied that ******* only provides a 1 year manufacturers warranty from service date for the phone, that this phone was used/refurbished, that the ****** *** were released in February 2020, so the phone would certainly not have any type manufacturer's warranty being that the release date was nearly 3 years ago. Mr. **** became more angry so I took out my (*******) phone and started recording the conversation. It was only after I started recording that Mr. **** agreed to print off a copy of my father's receipt, and agreed to guarantee the repair for 60 days, but he flatly refused to give my father a fair market price. Since Mr **** is refusing refund, I request for the repair to be completed and for my elderly father to be refunded an amount to make the purchase equivalent to a fair market value for the item.
