It is my reasonable belief that damage caused to my truck (that is, the the oil pan was broken) was caused by a non-malicious act of negligence, which occurred as a result of a lack of proper training and insufficient 'expert' supervision in the workplace.

When I took my truck to Reliable Motors, they assumed a duty of care for my vehicle. By breaking my oil pan, they failed in this duty.

As noted on my invoice, the oil pan on my truck was "very rusty", but it did not have a hole. In fact, I was informed by Mr. ******* **** ('Service Advisor') that, although the oil pan presented as dirty and rusty, it appeared to be solid and sound.

After assessing the condition of the oil pan, technicians made a decision to proceed with the oil change. The condition of the oil pan was not reported to me. Neither was a seized nut. The technician was unable to remove the nut using standard tools (ie. a regular torque wrench). The technician discarded the standard wrench and picked up a considerably more powerful wrench. In so doing, the technician failed to measure up to the duty of care that was incumbent upon him. Improper diligence was demonstrated, even though technicians were aware the rust on the oil pan's exterior.

A reasonable technician would be recognize that a large amount of rust on the exterior of the oil pan could have the potential to weaken its structure. Reliable Motors technicians had exclusive control of both the truck and its oil pan. In no way did my actions contribute to this outcome. After the damage was caused, numerous cracks appeared to radiate out from the seized nut. This damage occurred when attempts were being made to remove the seized nut (as reported by Mr. ****). Due to the extent of the damage, it is also reasonable to conclude that the damage occurred as a result of the use of excessive and/or prolonged torque.

I would like a refund for the full amount of $2176.16 in order to cover the cost of the damage that was inflicted on my vehicle.

I had a frustrating experience with Charlottetown Reliable Motors. I brought my truck in for a manifold leak inspection and estimate, but the service was a nightmare. They delayed looking at my truck, forced an undisclosed repair, held my truck hostage, and lacked transparency. The managers were unresponsive and unapologetic. I still didn't get estimates for the initial repairs, and when I finally received one, it was exorbitant. Overall, their inefficiency, lack of transparency, and poor customer service make them an unreliable option.

Among other issues, Reliable Motors failed to submit a warranty claim for us in a reasonable time. From the time pictures and data was taken to submit, 5 weeks had passed and the claim was not submitted at any point and the 3-4 follow ups we attempted were responded with "not yet" "didn't have time" "we're busy".

Understanding a car dealer can get busy, you can get short staffed, the process to submit a warranty claim isn't anything extremely extensive and maybe taking 1-2 weeks is reasonable but 5? Not a chance.

The other issues aside, this was the last straw and we won't deal with them again. We took it to another dealer who had us take it to their body shop, photos and estimate were created and the claim was submitted same day (as it should be).
