    My property was in the direct line of Hurricane Fiona and we lost a lot of trees which were down on our lawn for months before they were cleared. When the trees were cleared using skid steers it created additional damage to our lawn. On April 14 I accepted the estimate from Mel’s Gardening to provide clean up of the remaining small debris and for them to repair and reseed my lawn. I also emailed them as specified to confirm I wanted to them to proceed with their work.

    I trusted them to show up but when they hadn’t I called and left messages for the owner to determine when they would be here. He never returned any of my phone calls even when he was given the message by his employee. Now I can’t find anyone else to do the work and I am left with a lawn that can’t be mowed and an eyesore. It is not right for a company to accept work with no intention of completing it

    I am shocked and blown away to receive this letter of complaint.  In 30+ years in business, I've never received a complaint through BBB, especially over a Spring cleanup ESTIMATE.....  When I and my assistant estimator met with Ms. ******* in April to discuss the project, she asked for a raking (cleanup) of her property.  We were also to top dress areas with soil and plant seed once the stumps were removed.  Stumps (from another company) were only removed in late May.  Her chimney needed repair from ***** ****.  I was told to WAIT until the repair of the chimney was completed because he had to cross the lawn.  The chimney repair is still not done.  I did intend on completing this job like I do for all my clients.  However, the timing of all parties involved didn't work out fast enough I guess.  For that I can't control.  She did call our office and left ONE message.  She also asked us to roll her lawn using someone els'e equipment, which were not insured for; so I refused.

    Long story short, I'm sorry it came to this.  I emailed an apology to Ms. ******* and tried calling twice today but she won't take the call.

    I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 20141827, I am not interested in getting into an argument. For your information, I was not available to answer his calls this morning as I was in an meeting. It is clear from his email to me this morning that his version of events and facts are different than mine even though I have emails and call logs that dispute his interpretation. this just reinforces that this is not a company that I want to do business with. 

    I had originally chosen this company because they had what I thought was an excellent reputation. I understand how much of a challenge all companies are facing this year. I have been effectively managing relationships with many different contractors over the past eight months. Not one of those contractors has failed to communicate and problem solve where necessary even though their resources are stretched thin responding to overwhelming customer needs post Hurricane Fiona. 

    Thank you Better Business Bureau for taking your time and resources to meditate. I truly appreciate your assistance in at least getting a response as requested. As noted above I am not interested in arguing back and forth so I consider this issue closed. Hopefully other consumers will not also be treated as I have been.
