We purchased the Eternal Hybrid Water Heater, on the advice of ******************* (Fireweed ************************************************ in 2013 for our home in ***************** **********. On December 26 of 2016, the unit failed suddenly and completely, and left us with no heat and hot water with temperatures around -35C. **************** came out personally to check the unit and informed us that the Eternal could not be repaired as the company Eternal/Grand Hall in ***** had gone bankrupt. He told ** that we would have to have a different unit installed at a cost of $5000. This was after we had spent $25,000 on an entire new heating and hot water system with a written guarantee from Fireweed that the system had a lifetime warranty and could be even transferred to new owners. The owner sadly announced that the lifetime warranty only covered the life of the unit. There was no further warranty. As we refused to accept this assertion, we insisted that Fireweed honour its original commitment and replace our hot water system. They would not do this. For the next ten days, we had no heat or hot water in our home except for two electric heaters that Fireweed brought to us as we negotiated for a replacement. Finally, at the end of the ten days, with no resolution, we contacted ************************** who installed a new unit within a day. Our next-door neighbours purchased the entire system as we did in the same year and their Eternal failed at the same time ours did and they paid Fireweed for a brand new (different unit). We took our lumps and have since used ************************** as our heating specialist, especially considering the employee who installed the heating system from Fireweed, moved over to Precision at the same time as our Eternal failed. Now however, the ecologix heating unit (the furnace) has also failed causing water damage in our crawl space and once again, Fireweed refuses to honour its original commitment to us. This will cost us another $7000 as there is no warranty from Fireweed.
