In late June 2022, I stopped by the business in person to ask if they paid for metal scrap. I was told Yes. I was also told that they would drop off a container if there was a substantial amount of scrap. I assumed that they would only do this if the load was valuable enough. The counter person said that they would need a couple days notice. When I returned in early September, I called and talk to manager, ******. I sent him photos and he agreed to send container. I texted ****** a couple times over the next few days about whether to include or exclude certain items and he was immediately responsive. The container was picked up on 9/16/22 and I heard nothing for over a week. I sent a text on 9/25/22 asking if the recycling would be weighed/sorted when I returned the next week and heard nothing back. I then called on 10/5/22 and talked to a customer servicer person who said he would look into the matter. On 10/6/22 I got a call from ****** who acknowledged my text on 9/25/22 but went on to say that there was no sorting and no payment forthcoming. He suggested that there was a misunderstanding - that C&R doesn't sort anything but then he also insisted that I sent mostly steel which is not something they pay for. He denied being aware of the two catalytic converters that I threw into the container along with everything else. I asked to talk to the owner and spoke with someone named ***** who was flatly dismissive. He claimed that they only paid for valuable items that were brought to them. I thought this was a win-win arrangement by being able to clear out all of this scrap metal - lots of it useful - to a dealer that paid only for a small portion of it but enough to cover what I paid someone to help me load the container and to feel good about the transaction. Instead I feel completely cheated.

My name is ************************* and I am the owner. In 32 years of business it is the first complaint I have received. I find this not to be just a misunderstanding but a complete misconception of what may have value.
We often get calls from folks stating they have a piece of property needing cleaned up and asking if we will supply a container to pick up scrap metals. Depending on location of the property we charge $250 to drop and pick up a container ($125 each way). Often parties will question if they have a lot of scrap would we wave the fees. If they have what sounds like a quantity we will agree trying to accommodate. This saves the person cleaning the property local landfill fees of $127 /ton as well as transportation costs getting it to the landfill. In addition there is good intent to recycle instead of just throw away. However, we do not now, nor have we ever, sorted through people's stuff. We move a lot of material and do not have such time. Occasionally, as was the case here, we have to get rid of tramp materials at our expense.
Supporting notes (please see 2 attachments)

Picture of container contents. Miscellaneous scrap steel has no return value in *********. It is difficuit and expensive to ship out. We do recycle it but cannot pay for it. The topper is something we do not accept. Although it has some aluminum it also has glass, plastic and rubber seals. It will need to be cleaned and the tramp materials disposed of along with other non-metallics like the plastic bucket. This container is what I call a loser. **************** states that I am unable to discern if there were items of some value on the bottom by just looking at the picture. She is correct and I am also unable to discern if there were additional tramp materials. Again I am not about to sort through her stuff. This comes in, dumped, garbage removed and stacked on the pile for shipment.

Also please note the one and only communication which ****** received suggesting **************** was thinking about a weight or sortation was a text received at 5:18 AM on a Sunday morning.
**************** mentions she may have thrown in 2 catalytic convertors somewhere in the container. While 3 weeks after the fact is hard for us to deal with I also point out it doesn't mean they would have had value. While late model OEM cats can have a value of between $20 and $300 early model ones have little or none. Aftermarket cats have less than half the value of OEM. One more thing regarding cats is that 1 in 5 people who bring what they believe to be a catalytic convertor brings in a filter or a muffler which of course has no value.

    Regards,

    *************************

    President
