My ***** and I conducted a bear **** this Spring with Mountain Monarchs of Alaska. Once season had ended and it was time for exfil we got delayed several days. Weather was pristine at our pickup location so after several days we began to ask why we weren't be extracted. We were told it was due to weather. Later we found out they'd chosen to extract wealthy repeat clients whom they also inserted prior to us so apparently weather was suitable for flying 40 miles away at base camp. By the time Mountain Monarchs finally extracted us, we had only 2 days of food left; in total, we spent 17 days on the **** when we killed our bears by day 12. Also, once the decision was made to pick us up, the owner of Mountain Monarchs made his colleague make two round trips to extract us rather than flying his aircraft to assist in the extraction. This shallow decision not only risked our safety but also the safety of his colleague. Also, rather than provide us lodging at base camp as per their contract we were required to stay off site. Once back at base camp we found out that arrangements had been made to stay in ******************* where we would fly out via charter the next day. It wouldn't have been a big deal but my ***** and I were required to pay $200 each for our night's stay. This was a direct breach of the contractual agreement for our **** in which clearly states all lodging would be provided. (For reference, I'm retired Army with over 25 years of active duty. The majority of it in Special Operations conducting military freefall parachuting so I'm aware of weather/wind restrictions and how they impact flight ops.) Weather conditions were suitable to fly. However, the owner chose not to. Under the current owner I would NOT recommend jeopardizing your hard earned money or your safety with Mountain Monarchs.
