Background - This was my first interaction with Christian Brothers Automotive and I am very disappointed. I feel they took advantage of me through deceptive billing and stole $80 through fraudulent diagnostic fee charges. On 11 Oct 2024 my car would not start. I called them and asked if I could have it towed to them. They said yes. When checking my car in, they explained they charge a $160 diagnostic fee that DOES not apply to the repair cost. When I got home, I remembered that the car made a noise when putting it into gear and there was something leaking from the front of the car. I called them and asked if they could check into those additional issues. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone said they would. That is all he said OK we will check it out. He NEVER said there would be any additional diagnostic fees. When I picked up my car they charged a diagnostic fee of $160 per issue. The diagnostic fee was $480. I have never heard of such charges in the automotive industry - EVER. I strongly complained to the manager on duty and he reluctantly agreed to reduce the total diagnostic fee to $240. Though I am happy for the reduction, I still feel that I was charged an overage of $80 that was not fair based on my interaction with the staff. Had they told me there would have been $480 in diagnostic fees, I would have towed my car to another repair facility. I would have NEVER agreed to such an absurd fee had I understood I was being charged for each issue I requested they investigate.Bottom line They told me $160 for THE diagnostic fee and I was charged $160 for EACH issue for a total of $480 which was reduced to $240. I feel I am owed a refund of $80 for their fraudulent billing. Item 5 and Item 6 on their bill states "approval" of Diagnosis fee. I NEVER approved those two fees. They never stated there were additional fees. Had they told me, I would have STRONGLY disapproved and taken my car somewhere else.

Had car towed in because it was not turning over when start was initiated. The other concern was a braking system issue. They did diagnostic testing and stated that I needed a battery. And said we just so happen to have a battery here . This was $281.65. After that they stated since car came here with very little oil, that I needed an oil change which was $90.26. Not to mention , they also said that testing showed that it was my vacuum pump booster that needed replacing . This was $743.09. They did all of this , only to tell me that I needed a engine. This should have been diagnosed with the initial diagnostic testing.

    Date: 03/25/2024

    1.  ******************' initial complaints/issues were brakes and not starting.  See her attached invoice.

    2.  Since the vehicle would not start and the battery showed it was beyond charging, a new battery was required to begin any diagnostics. ***************** approved this on 3/19/24 at 5:21 PM(See her attached invoice)

    3.  Upon getting the vehicle running, the technician noted that the oil was low and that she was ****** miles overdue for an oil change.  ****************** approved the oil change on 3/20/24 at 11:06AM(see her attached invoice).

    4.  The technician diagnosed the 2nd of her initial concerns, her brakes, as being related to needing a new "Vacuum Pump" due to lack of oil. The technician also found additional codes related to timing issues that were also related to the low oil.  ****************** was told at this point that there may be other issues with the vehicle related to the lack of oil but that the Vacuum Pump may fix the issue.  ****************** approved this repair on 3/20/24 at 12:46PM(see her attached invoice).  Upon installation of the Vacuum Pump, the vehicle continued to run poorly and ****************** was told that the current situation lead the technician to believe a new motor was probably in order.  ****************** declined any further diagnostics and chose to pick the vehicle up and pay for the approved and completed work.

    5.  ****************** was well informed during the entire process.  All of our phone conversations with her were recorded and we are happy to share them if needed,  ****************** was also told, repeatedly, to not drive the vehicle from the shop.  She attempted to drive the vehicle away, but, as she was told, the vehicle was not in running condition due to the existing and continuing timing issues.
