***** Monroe of Monroe Construction LLC posed as a legal, licensed contractor and gave an estimate of $3520 to replace a walk-in shower with a tub, repair floor as needed, install floor, and install sink including hardware. Monroe Construction used unskilled laborers for the job and it was a complete disaster. The tub was not installed properly and the drain was not aligned to the drainpipe. There was no faucet to run water into the tub. After realizing that error their solution was to run a beat up iron pipe from the previous hand held spout about 3feet above the tub to be used as a spout. The old hardware was used for the shower controls but they broke those. There were no walls behind the tub enclosure. Instead there was cardboard in places to fake a wall in an attempt to hold the new shower walls in place. When touched, the wall bent. The enclosure was nailed and screwed all over, many protruding, to attempt to get it to stay up. It was warped and would not adhere to the wall or tub. After one month all nails and screws began to rust. All seams were separated and unbeknown to us, water was simply running under the house. The safety bars were not attached to studs. The sink was not properly aligned and the back was completely cut out and destroyed. The floor was redone by his workers after we found places where it simply wasn't connected. We had to pay to have the project redone. In doing so, the contractor pointed out many problems that leave the belief that no one associated with this project was trained, experienced, or licensed. We requested a refund, (honestly making a mistake adding to 2400 instead of 3520) and we were told we would receive one. He was failed to make good on that promise, only giving us a $200 check on 9/30/24 promising more on 1/04/24. We believe Monroe should be penalized to the fullest degree. Photos are attached and consider at the time the project was barely 3 months old.

    Business Response

    Date: 10/30/2024

In response to the complaint filed by Mrs. ******** ******* I accept full
responsibility for the quality of work that was done in her mothers
home. I used a sub-contractor that said he could to the job and
unfortunately he could not. I used him before on other jobs that he did
well on so I trusted that he could complete this one. When I was
contacted by Mrs. ******* I reached back out to the sub-contractor with
no response. I then ****** in someone else to fix the issues and
discovered that the problem was bigger than what we initially thought.
After the attempt to fix it Mrs. ****** understandably so was frustrated
and moved on with another contractor and with no other attempt for me
to fix the issue. I told her that I agreed the quality of work was not done
professionally or to my satisfaction either and that I would pay her back.
I just didnt have the money at the time to give her the full amount. In
good faith, I took a $200 check to her mothers home which she did cash
so that they could see I was making an effort. Before I could pay any
other money I received this complaint. As of 10/21/2024 I have paid
    back Mrs. ****** and/or her mother $3250.
