I was renting a storage unit at a rate of $55 per month, due on the 1st day of each month. The business does not have a drop box for payments, a way to pay online, or a local representative that you can work with. The payment is due on the 1st, late by the close of business on the 10th day of each month. At 9:30 am on 8/10, there was already a facility lock on my unit BEFORE IT WAS EVEN LATE!!! I contacted the business and got the total amount I owed to get the lock removed and clear out the unit before the next month rolled over and another payment was due. I offered to drive the payment, in cash, to their other facility which is approximately 40 miles from the unit and the city where I live on Friday, 8/30, so that I could go on Sunday and clear out the unit. I was told that the lady at the facility WOULD NOT JUMP AND REMOVE A LOCK JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE WANTS TO PAY AND CLEAR OUT THEIR UNIT. I was then told that I "was not special, nor was I important, regardless of what I thought" and that "If I didn't have the cash to her by 1pm that day (Friday, 8/30), she would not be in the area to remove the lock until some time next week, which would, in turn, cause another monthly fee to be due. The lady made several comments about "selling the property in the unit for the bill due". ALMOST EVERYTHING I OWN IS IN THAT UNIT and she wants to sell it to cover a $95 bill?!? How can they call themselves "24 hour storage" if they are only 1pm storage. I feel like, at this point, I should have, at the very least, $40 returned to me for the "late fees". I don't mind paying the monthly rent but she is scamming people $20 at a time and stealing their property (as I have found out from other former customers) over nominal fees while refusing to compromise with the customers in any way. This is created such a mental hardship for me as I am trying to work and simultaneously find a way to make it 40 miles to her by 1pm (its 11:18am now) so I can keep my belongings. ITS A SCAM
