I have been using McLendon Vet for almost 8 years.Dr. ******* has been very nice. She gave my dog her very first shots and all vaccines.Unfortunately, my dog had a reaction to the vaccines. She became lethargic, would not eat and would not walk.i was very scared. Since this episode I have only gave my dog the required (law)*********** dog has been attacked by another dog and McLendon took care of us.Last year I spent $1000 trying to figure out her anxiety. She also has allergies in which McLendon gives her allergy shots for. In March of this year I took my dog to McLendon to be seen for an estimate on teeth ************ have to pay an office visit to get a quote for teeth cleaning. After talking to Dr. ******** we decided to book in June so she also could get her vaccines that were required by law. Today Saturday 4/26/25 at 7:30am I took my dog in to be seen. She has been shaking her head/ears a lot, and it was time for another allergy shot. When I checked in, I told the lady behind the desk we needed to see a vet to get her ears checked, she was signing us in and she told me we could not be seen because we were not an established client. I said what do you mean we have been coming here since she was nine weeks old. She proceeded to roll her eyes at me.She said my dog was not an established patient. I said OK can you describe or explain to me what and establish patient is again I got another eye roll. She proceeded to tell that because I have chosen to only give my dog vaccines that was required by law. They could not see me. To become an established Client/patient I would have to give **** all the vaccines and do all the recommended test they suggested. I told her that my dog cannothave some of the vaccines because she had a reaction to them. I asked if **** could get her allergy shot she said yes they could do that. So she signed us in and we waited. ******************************************************************* behind us had already been seen and left.

    Business Response

    Date: 05/23/2025

As a small family-owned business, we are taking this with great consideration as we continue to improve our processes. We understand it is frustrating to be asked to return at another time in a non-urgent situation.Dr. ******* had the opportunity to speak with the owner in response to her concerns on May 16th, 2025 and it is our understanding that both parties were able to discuss our processes and find a solution.

As Dr. ******* discussed, we have a policy that a pet is considered established when up to date with our doctors standard of care for yearly exams, vaccinations, and heartworm test. Non-established patient hours are defined as M-F 7am-11am due increased clinic volume following several clinic closures in the area. This increase extended patient wait times, consequentially we defined these established/non-established hours. Additionally, Dr. ******* discussed with the owner on April 18th, 2024 that due to the vaccination status of the pet, we would continue to see her in the afternoons for allergy injections (Cytopoint) only. Further, Dr. ******* discussed that if the pet was sick (coughing, sneezing, itching, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, etc.) she would need to visit us during our non-established patient hours. We understand that the owner observed the pet as she was lethargic and painful after vaccines given when the pet was a puppy. This behavior was not observed by a doctor and is typical to a degree when animals receive vaccines.  However due to the owners concern, she has decided to withhold vaccines not required by law. As discussed, Dr. ******* did place an alert on the owners account stating that the pet may be checked-in during the afternoon and on Saturdays.

    Customer Answer

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *********

i will say i love Dr ******** I think she is a great vet. She did not witness my dog being lethargic when she received the vaccines but she did call the next day concerned about her because of the report I made after vaccination. Im not sure why I would make that up or why whomever felt it needed to be written up that way that no one except me witnessed the behavior. I would not make something like that up and to witness your new puppy go through those symptoms was terrifying.
Although they did flag my account now that we can be seen, the way I was treated by their staff was not addressed. I know at my job I could not treat a customer like she treated me. When you walk into your family owned business the girls upfront are the first impressions of your business. Disrespect from your family staff including eye rolls, mouth smacking, and being talked about to another employee should not be allowed.
The emergi vet here in town saw my dog that day. They felt like the issues she was having were enough of an emergency issue because it was affecting my dog in general. The vet there also told me about a shot that can be offered for heart worms and not the pill/chew that made my dog so sick.something I have never been offered before. I honestly hope McLendon prospers and continues to grow and be as busy as they have stated, but at the end of the day your love for the animals and customers should be priority.

    Sincerely,

    *** ****
