Highland Homes, owned by Bruce **** is a top notch home builder. He built our lake front home, on a sloped, long thin lot that was very challenging to build on.
He worked with the city of Bella Vista which was also very challenging, with the way they keep changing and adding new rules. I could never have built this home myself, and glad I did not try.
My retirement home is everything I dreamed of. After going through the whole building process and living in it nine months I can honestly say I would have Bruce and Highland homes build my next home. Thank You Bruce!!!

Bruce and his team did an amazing job. We've been in our house now for two years and love it. Anytime we may have had an issue he or one of his crew members would show up immediately to resolve the issue.

Beware, beware, beware!!! I totally relate to Sara H review. Fortunately, I made amendments to his contract which he agreed and accepted, one being a completion date. Of course, he could not meet that date and we parted ways, thank goodness. I went to the city, got a permit and finished my home. It took me one and a half days to get every sub Mr **** had on board to complete my home. My home was done in two months. Oh yes, the subs had issues with Mr. ****. I heard more stories from people at the supply companies but especially from the subs. It definitely explained weeks that would go by with no work being done. Again, beware beware beware.

I wish there was a BBB review page for the customers I run into sometimes. She had more changes to a contract that I have ever seen. I thought they were ok so I signed it. That should have been a big red flag. She is one of those people that is not going to pay in the end no matter what. I should have never signed it. I have a letter here from her stating my “subcontractors did excellent work”. She did put a line in the contract for a “estimated” completion date. To work past that date we needed an extension to the contract. She chose to have her relative finish the home, which is fine, but she owes me over 34K for work we did do since Dec 31, 2022. We did have weather delays and major issues getting concrete for the foundation. Perhaps you heard about the near impossibility it was in 2022 to get concrete due to the new Walmart Home office and covid. There were times you could not get electrical wire or boxes. Lowes had total empty shelves. Sure, she finished in two months, it was almost done, and the workers were already lined up by me so no wonder it was easy. I would be happy for you to visit with any of my subcontractors. They do not feel the way she says. I currently have a lawsuit pending to hopefully finally get paid. I have many happy customers for you to visit with if you wish. I have only had 2 negative reviews in 21 years of building.

Avoid d this man like the plague. He turned our dream of custom building a home into a nightmare. From being almost 100k off the original quote and not bringing this to our attention until our lease on our rental was nearly expired or proactively when changes or cuts could have been made.
I understand COVID caused problems, but his inability to communicate, do math, find workers and stay on schedule was unacceptable. House were being built and popping up all over the place and yet ours was not. My husband ended up painting the entire exterior, including the garage and stainting the deck. We also researched, ordered. and had every exterior door, toilets/sinks, fans, and so much more paid for OUT OF POCKET and sent to our rental. Which we would then take to the house.
All this after we asked multiple times for him to stay on top of cost and please let us know ahead of time if we need to modify anything.
I could go on and on, and probably blow the minds of a few people. However, the point of this post is to prevent any other family from going through the ****, circus and lies of this crook. STAY AWAY!

I regret that she feels this way. She early on checked out on me because the whole thing stressed her out. She did not come to the meetings I had with her husband to communicate what was going on or make choices. I gave reports to show where we were financially and I think it and other things were not communicated to her by her husband so she would not stress. This was during the time of rapid inflation of lumber and concrete. A sheet of osb plywood went from $10 to $55. Her husband asked what he could do to save money and he painted the front of the home and the garage interior. That was his choice. Any options I gave to save money were rejected and they even added things on top. Builders almost could not get concrete for a while there. That has all relaxed now. The fact that they bought things on their own greatly complicated the situation. One example is the custom carved doors came that he ordered they had to be put together. They got unusual things online that are not in stores here.
She acts like I made her order things and pay extra. They could pay direct or have me pay.
This was a large home with major custom features.... Tin ceilings, tin backsplash, all stained Victorian style trim, wallpaper, hidden panty door, stained glass in interior walls and above doors, paneled wainscoting, real hardwood floors, custom stone fireplace surround, etc. It is on a very steep hill that faced north that was tough to back down on a dry day. So when we got snowy weather we were stopped until it melted. Their job did have challenges and I believe I am one of the only builders that could have accomplished their home. They have a high quality home today that if they sold would sell for way more than they paid. Her husband is a great guy and I will leave it there.
